Ladies, remember that tomorrow, Friday the 27th, we will all be watching Episode 1 of "He Who Can't Marry" on our computers. Here's the link to the episodes on MySoju: http://www.mysoju.com/he-who-cant-marry/

If you have any problem with any of the episodes, you can download the episodes here: http://aja-aja.com/regular/the-man-who-cant-get-married and the subtitles here: http://withs2.com/view/he-who-cant-marry/

From Soompi:
Quote:
“Love story of an extremely stubborn and absolutely inflexible 40-year-old bachelor.”

Here is a man who just turned forty.
He has his own architectural company and you can find some fine architectures if you google his name. Just by looking at his good appearance or his job, it would be hard to believe that he is not married yet. However….

Here is a man who doesn’t know how to communicate with other people. He is obstinate and never thought of living together with somebody.

One day, he comes across a lady doctor who is quite similar to himself. After that day, he feels like to talk to her and rely upon her. Slowly, he starts to change. He becomes intimate with the dog next door, starts to meddle in another´s affairs, and realizes the preciousness of people around him.

Would he be able to get married after all? If he gets married, who would be good for him? And how is he going to propose?

From DramaWiki:

It's great! Well written & funny.
Cast is wonderful together.
Love that most of the characters are older/mature adults.

I saw this a while back. It can be kinda slow paced at times, but it REALLY gets the aging bachelor thing spot-on . . . and I speak with some authority here. Wink

And, if you’re the kind of guy who finds himself attracted to beautiful women (women, mind you - not high school girls) then Uhm Jung-hwa is about a hot looking as a woman can possibly be Bouncing Grin (somebody better tell Jim that this is a must-see show).

The neighbor’s Chihuahua, by the way, really steals the show.

Soooo I watched the first episode and aren't you supposed to like the main character? Rolling Eyes Well I can't stand! Jae Hee aka social idiot! He is not likeable at all. The only likeable thing about him is his nekkid butt! That was the one plus about the episode, and the dog sanggu(??)
I'll keep watching because I have a feeling it's going to get better(it has to) plus I love Ji Jin Hee.

OK rant over Wink

Actually, that is precisely the premise of the drama in the beginning. He's supposed to be an insufferable selfish snob, that's why no one wants to marry him. But his personality is supposed to slowly change during the course of the drama (due to the influence of the three women, no doubt).

Here's the way he was described in Dramawiki:
Quote:
Cho Jae Hee is a man in his 40s who is very stubborn and hasn't gotten married yet. His personality is so unbearable that women don't find him attractable nor a good candidate for marriage. However, Jae Hee, is perfect in everything that he does. His life will be surrounded by three different women. Jang Moon Jung is a doctor that he meets one day, Jung Yoo Jin is his neighbor whom he meets due to a disturbance, and Yoon Ki Ran is his colleague at work.

Not to worry, by the end of the drama, for sure you will end up in love with him. (And I'm sure his fine nekkid butt will have nothing to do with it. Laugh Out Loud )

And just a minor heads-up: Episode #7 (probably the best episode of the bunch) is entirely centered around the Chihuahua! Very Happy

Though I'm a dog lover, I never cared much for Chihuahuas - too yappy, too ill-tempered - but Sanggu is something else. He's the coolest, most laid-back Chihuahua I've ever seen. Cool

Well, Ji Jin Hee is a gorgeous man, but you're handsome too in a different way. And I'm sure you're not a stubborn, selfish buffoon like he is. But why don't we make a full comparison--show us your "nekkid butt"! Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud

Okay I watched the first episode.
(I needed something to distract me from the fact You're beautiful is over. a7j2 )

Sangu is my favorite character so far. Laugh Out Loud I look forward to more scene stealing from him.
I'm guessing the doctor will get our curmudgeon in the end (No pun intended) but I'm wondering if the 3 girls end up friends as well.

Thanks for the compliment. Smile

From the description he sounds like he just flat-out doesn't know how to communicate. I have no problem socializing...I just don't particularly enjoy it, that's all. I tend to exclude myself by choice.

And no, you can't see my butt. Laugh Out Loud

I just watched the first episode on a whim, and this one looks like it'll be really entertaining! Smile

Dude, Jae-hee is the man! Laugh Out Loud This may surprise some of you, but I really feel like I can relate to him. We actually have a very similar outlook on life and stuff and we have some similar personality traits - our mannerisms are just different. He's really just a colder, older, more extreme version of me.

As far as the women go, the doctor is probably my favorite at the moment. I think she's the prettiest one, and she's apparently a gamer, which is really cool. Smile Jae-hee's next door neighbor is a close second - if not for the doc, she'd probably be my favorite. She's pretty too, but she's more "cutesy" and is exactly the kind of K-drama girl that I used to be attracted to.

Hey Greg, are you going to watch this one with us? If so, I'd like to welcome you to the group. Tonight we will be watching Episode 2 (hopefully). I say hopefully, since many of our ladies prefer to go by different calendars other than the Gregorian. You'll see what I mean if you follow our group. Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud

Would you like me to add you to the "DOMmies" group? Or is this going to be just a one-time deal? If you join us, you will be the first guy here, and we'd love to have you. Let me know.

The "DOMmies" group? I know absolutely nothing about it, but sure, I suppose I'm up for it as long as there is no painful initiation process involved. Laugh Out Loud

OK Greg, you are now officially a DOMmie (a member of the Drama of the Month Group). We choose a drama every month or so (more like every six weeks) and we agree to watch it together, one episode every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and then discuss it in the forum.

We formed the group so that we'd have a drama in common to discuss together, since it had become apparent that different people were watching different things, and there wasn't a lot of activity on this forum. So basically, the purpose was to kind of bring us together to discuss a common drama.

We are not supposed to skip ahead or fall behind, but some members of our little group sometimes do that, so we sometimes end up out of sync.

The dramas we've seen so far are:

1) The Slingshot. This was great, but too intense sometimes, and some of the ladies fell behind.
2) Accidental Couple (a/k/a That Fool). This one was a great hit with our group! All the ladies fell in love with the lead character, Goo Dang Baek (played by Hwang Jung Min).
3) Partner. This one was a courtroom drama, and for some reason, was not very popular with this group.

And now this one, our fourth drama. Let's see what we all think of this one.

Cool, I'm in! Smile

I just have one question, Maria...how do you guys handle spoilers? Since everyone isn't necessarily going to watch the show at the same time on a given day, should I wait 'till the next day before I start discussing the episode I just watched?

I forget what our watching schedule is, but if we were to watch episode 2 last night, then we can freely talk about it today. I watched half episode 2 and it cracked me up! Between the dog Sangu and Jae Hee, whose expressions I love, they're making me laugh!!!!! Sometimes Jae Hee has this bewildered, confused look on his face you just want to eat him right up!!!

We started this one on Friday, Joanmarie, so last night was Episode 2, tomorrow (Wednesday) will be Episode 3, and Friday will be Episode 4.

We had agreed to start posting after 11:00 pm. but it's OK if you post a bit earlier, since we are all supposed to be more or less on the same episode. By the next day, as Joanmarie said, we can discuss it freely. If someone has already seen that particular drama before and wants to start a separate spoiler thread for events that will happen in future episodes, that's OK too.

The rules aren't written in stone. We are doing this for fun, so we'll go with whatever works for us.

Okay, thanks for the clarification, guys. Smile

So, yeah, this show is pretty awesome so far. Jae-hee has been pure comedic gold in pretty much every scene. I also love Moon-jung (the doc) and think that her and Jae-hee would be perfect for each other. They're similar in that they both spend a good deal of time alone - the difference is that Jae-hee is like me and tends to isolate himself by choice, while Moon-jung is actually very social and will take advantage of any opportunity to be around other people. I feel like she would be great at getting Jae-hee to come out of his shell.

While I did feel bad for poor Moon-jung at the end of the episode, I really think she just took Jae-hee's joke way too seriously. I've been in Jae-hee's position before - not that I've made a girl cry, necessarily, but I think we've all had an embarrassing moment like that where we say something in jest and someone else makes too much out of it or misinterprets it. I don't even think he was trying to hurt her feelings, because as they were going back and forth, he asked "who told you to compare yourself to a car?"

In any event, he showed up at the club afterwards, so at least he's trying to make amends, or so it seems. Knowing him, he'll find some way to botch this opportunity as well, and it should be very entertaining to watch. Laugh Out Loud

Remember when she went to to the doctor to get her check up and they found a cyst or mass and she had to go for more testing. I think Jae Hee referring her to as a "rusty old car" it hit her where it hurt. She had already said her parts were falling apart before she could use them(or something like that) I think that's why she was so upset.

I'm really starting to get into this drama. I still don't care for Jae Hee too much but I do like Moon-jung. Like Greg said they'd be perfect for each other.

^ Ahh...that's a good point, Talese. I forgot about the cyst.

So, the third episode was a little more serious than the first two, but it was still very entertaining. I thought it was hilarious how Moon-jung started dancing very badly hoping to get some guy's attention, and sure enough, that guy ended up being none other than Jae-hee. Oh, and did anybody else catch the DMX song playing while they were in that club? Laugh Out Loud

I know I've been harping on this a lot, but I'm starting to think that Jae-hee and I were separated at birth or something. I've definitely played The Game of Life by myself on more than one occasion, and I definitely have a habit of sneaking up on people and startling them...ha ha.

I'm starting to dislike the younger girl, the next-door neighbor. That comment she made about the young nerdy guy's heart having wings but needing money to take off may have been true, but even if it was, it was pretty mean-spirited. To me, she's coming off as a bit of a materialistic snob so far. I thought it was pretty ironic that by the end of the episode, she was the one that ended up needing money.

I've been reading comments on various online blogs and forums comparing the Japanese and Korean versions of this drama. The Japanese version won lots of awards, and some people say that the Korean version is not faring as well because it is based on the Japanese style of dry humor, whereas Korean humor is more slapstick type. I definitely want to watch the Japanese version as soon as I get a chance so I can reach my own conclusion, but up to now I'm enjoying the Korean version.

Here are some images of the Japanese version. From the photos alone, it appears that the Korean version is almost identical to the Japanese version, although in my opinion, Abe Hiroshi (who is one of my favorite Japanese actors), seems much more suited to the role than Ji Jin Hee, because he usually plays these types of no-nonsense men, whereas Ji Jin Hee is more of a romantic type.

See if you can match these scenes, and the characters, to the Korean version. You'll have no trouble matching one very cute character to his Korean counterpart! Very Happy
