You Are My Sunshine (yes, the song does make an appearance) tells the story of a 36-year old farmer named Seok-joong who, apart from his cow and his mother, has difficulty relating to women. After backing out of a scheme that would have set him up with a Philippine bride, he decides to make do without a wife, until the day Eun-ha drives past him on her scooter. (Cue slow motion, music, and Seok-joong's mouth hanging wide open... he's in love) Eun-ha, meanwhile, is employed as a sex worker at the local coffee shop, delivering beverages and a variety of services to whoever in town pays for them. She reacts with bemusement at first when the awkward, stammering Seok-joong presents himself, delivering free bottles of milk and roses to her on a daily basis. As time passes, though, she begins to wonder if life with him might be a better option than her current day-to-day routine.

Just watched this last night!

This was great movie. The summary above only tells you half of the story. I won't spoil it (obviously Smile ) but the main crux of this film isn't just boy chasing after girl to finally win her. Literally, that summary above is the first half (first hour of 2 hours) of the film. Anyway, it takes a much more serious and poignant turn at the middle. I recommend it, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very Happy There is a scene near the end that will make you break out the tissues; if I hadn't been watching it with my friend, I would have completely lost it. Very moving! I'd say 3 1/2 stars out of 5 (leaning towards 4). Wink

It could possibly sound like a typical Kdrama/movie plot if you just read the blurb, but I found it to be off the usual paths and it dealt with some stuff that they typically don't go near in your traditional dramas. Also Jeon Do-yeon, who was great in Lovers in Prague, does a great job in this one. Superb acting by her.

"You Are My Sunshine" used to be (is it still?) one of the first English language songs school children learned in Korea.

I liked this movie even though it wasn't an easy one. Don't miss Jeon Do-yeon's performance! She just won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film festival for Secret Sunshine. She was wonderful in Harmonium in My Memory and Untold Scandal.

Her acting is indeed supurb, and I don't mean just compared to other k-actresses, but on a global scale. I am sure that award at Cannes was well deserved and I can't wait to see that film! Very Happy
