This new show (replaces Dare to Love) has some real evil in it.. It seems to center on 2 women - the wife of the eldest son of a CEO, who suffers from a weak uterus. Weak Uterus Girl can't conceive because her ovaries have been worn out by her EMIL forcing her to undergo years of artificial insemination. EMIL wants the eldest son to have an heir to the company, but doesn't seem to give a Yanti about the second son, a wastrel who constantly changes his major in college. Is he really her son? I have my doubts. Weak Uterus Girl has the support of Plastic Hair Granny, the CEO's mother. The other woman, Eun Nim, has cute bunny-teeth. Her father is dying from cirrhosis of the liver and needs a transplant. The match is his step daughter, Eun Nim's step sister, who, to be kind, is very unique looking, and only cares about herself. The ESM has spent all the family's savings on her daughter, and Dad's company has gone belly up, and they need money to buy a liver for the transplant, since ESS won't do it because she doesn't want a big scar on her midsection.

Enter Ms Scratch, who haunts the hospital corridors, brokering organs for surrogate mothers. The price? YOUR SOUL! mmmhahahahahahahahaha! d8v5 The deal will be, Eun Nim becoming a surrogate mother for Weak Uterus Girl and her Favorite Son husband. Meanwhile, ESD likes Second Son, who has encountered Eun Nim twice - the second time when she went to a bar to save her underage half-sister from selling her ass to make money for Dad's transplant (apparently, they don't check the girls' age before they let them sell their asses in bars Rolling Eyes ). So you just know Eun Nim and Second Son will be getting together, even though Eun Nim will be carrying Favorite Son's baby for Weak Uterus Girl.

The highlite of Episode 2 was the Seoul Kiosk police kicking over Eun Nim's Grandma's kiosk and throwing the old woman on the ground because she doesn't have a license, or something like that. I want to be a Koreandramaland Kiosk policeman when I grow up.

Hmmm . . . I noticed some cute girls in this one. So, it might be worth watching, just for that. Wink

Now, I’m not completely sure, but is the evil MIL (the one who kept implanting embryos into her unfortunate DIL) our old favorite Nara????

It sure sounds like her voice, but man, that hairstyle! Yeesh! It’s the ugliest thing I’ve seen in years! Jaw Drop

Laugh Out Loud much Negative Karma to you Jim THAT was a PERFECT description of this drama.

I smell Second son being a son from an affair cuz E-Mom treats him WAY too bad. She didn't want to go get him at the airport when he came home after being gone so long and all she cares about is getting an heir from the oldest son. Maybe because she thinks that any inheritance will go to 2nd son if oldest son can't pop out an heir and in turn she gets nothing. Rolling Eyes And bucky-teeth has her own issue with her own dis-functional family Rolling Eyes

A few comments on these 1st 2 episodes.

-I give credit to the actresses who play the step sister and step mom for doing those 2 scenes with the cucumbers falling off their faces. It must have been difficult to say your lines and move around like that.

-The step sister in the first episode was wearing one of the weirdest t-shirts I've ever seen on tv. The shirt had a drawing of some strange distorted animal type face with 2 mouths and some foreign words captioned by each mouth. She wore it to the hospital and was crying in it the whole time, which made that scene even more surreal.

-The actor who played the rich son party boy slacker from Golden Bride is reprising that role in this series but this time he's the slacker son of a gambling drama writer mother. Although his financial status has taken a down turn, I'm glad to see that his eclectic taste in slippers hasn't been affected. Very Happy

-Now I understand why kdrama writers feel like that are being persecuted. Look at the tough guy bullies who are their producers. I didn't realize that such harsh street thugs were running things behind the scenes.

-It's possible that the reason Gang-Ho's mom is so upset with him is because he's been using up all her makeup. Razz

Some thoughts on episode 3:

The start of the meeting between the chaebol EMIL and the baby broker lady was kind of weird. Rolling Eyes I'm not sure why baby broker lady had to take her sunglasses off, but it seemed like only one person would be allowed to wear sunglasses during the meeting and they were trying to decide who should keep them on. I guess the competition was based on whoever had the biggest pair of oversized sunglasses, since the EMIL kept hers on and baby broker lady had to take hers off.

Once again, it looks like SBS is trying to one up KBS in the violence department. KBS has it's classic "mother hits disobedient grown child with the world's largest broom" bit. But SBS's Love You Thousand Times has put an innovative twist on that theme by having the aunt hit the party boy son with the world's largest ..... scallion ?!?!?! Laugh Out Loud I guess he deserved that hit, as well as the tissue box to the head from his kdrama writer mother; however he deserved to get hit not for the reason that they hit him, but mostly for that goofy way he tied up his hair when he went out clubbing. Razz

In regards to Gang Ho and his attempt to leave his car in front of the hospital, I can't believe someone on a kdrama didn't get away with parking their car in front of the entrance to a major public building. It looks like things are starting to get pretty strict in kdramaland. First, old lady food vendors are made to actually sell things legally and now parking rules are being enforced. Plus, that producer is cracking down on the krdama writing mother to submit her outline for her drama. But according to her, nobody does that anymore. Hmmmm Confused Well if that's the case, I'm hoping that the kdrama writer mother's statement that "nobody does that anymore" isn't art imitating life, otherwise the writers of this show might be going out of control and we'll have another Dare To Love on our hands.

A few comments on episode 4:

The music on this show is starting to ruin it for me. I know some people don't like the Green Carriage soundtrack, but I actually enjoy that and think that it complements that show nicely. But the music played on Love You a Thousand Times tends to drain the show of any momentum that might be building up. That sappy violin, melodramatic piano pieces, unimpressive building of tension themes and the utterly generic "fighting" determination music makes me think that this show isn't as powerful as it should be. Instead of creating some nice atmosphere, the music just detracts. I wish they would stop playing it and let the scenes speak for themselves, rather than leading the audience to feel a certain way through the sound of the music. I realize that this show is a melodrama but that sappy violin just kills it for me. I get that the characters are all sad and crying with tragic fates, but you don't have to hit me over the head with that weak music in order for me to understand that. Maybe it's just that I wish this show would be a little more upbeat. So far almost every character is a total downer trip. Crying

I am conflicted about my feeling towards the baby-demanding chaebol EMIL. Is this the same actress that played the EMIL on Happiness? On that show she looked great. Yet, on this show it's something different; from the neck down she is va va va voom, Wink however all the makeup she wears, which is caked on, plus really dark lipstick and that short hairstyle that doesn't compliment her face well are things about her that put me off. Additionally, she has no pleasant facial expressions. Granted that's the way the character is supposed to be played, so I'm not faulting the actress. I just wish she wasn't such a walking contradiction of breathtaking and unstimulating. Confused

I really liked that purple tie that the son received as a gift from his bartender/security guard friend. Very cool that he has a tie drawer dispaly case in his house like the ones found in fine clothing stores. I'm putting tie drawer display case down on my list of things to own when I become chaebol. Smile

I'm unsure about what kind of surrogate mother they are trying to make out of Eun-Nim. Did she receive an embryo or only sperm? Did they mention yet? Because I don't remember hearing it said and I would think that it's going to play a crucial role in how the events play out. If it's only sperm, then Eun-Nim can have more of a claim to the baby. I think that Sun Young has a weak uterus. So if that's the case, then Sun Young could donate an egg to make an embryo, right? And if it's an embryo that was implanted in the surrogate mother, then Eun-Nim doesn't have that much of a claim to the baby because even though she held it for nine months, the baby won't contain any of her genetic material.

Nan-Jeong plays a cute fake drunk. But I don't get how Gang-Ho figured it out. From what evidence did he deduce that she was faking? It was never shown or hinted at. Since he's always switching majors, maybe he should give a career as a detective a shot, since he seems to have this extra-ordinary power of perception. Smile

I guess that Eun-Nim didn't think her cunning plan all the way through now that she's showing signs of morning sickness. I wonder what she's going to do when her belly starts showing? I guess she can proclaim that she's going abroad or something like that, but I suspect that this won't happen and that her plan will eventually be discovered by her family.

And why is that baby broker woman such a bad business person? She doesn't demand any money up front from the chaebol EMIL, and instead pays Eun-Nim in full?! Rolling Eyes So now if anything goes wrong, the baby broker woman is out the cash? And to make her stupidity even more out of place, she is also a scammer (as was revealed by the kdrama writer's sister), so she should know better than to do business where it's possible for her to lose out on a deal.

I think she is. And I agree with you 100%. She has a great body, but that hair ruins her appearance completely.

Weak Uterus Girl's ovaries are worn out from too much artificial insemination. There probably wasn't anything wrong with her. She just didn't wait long enough. It took us 19 years!

You must have missed it. She said she was going to China to work for her "friend" who made the "loan". EMIL got her an apartment.

She is the Devil - Ms Scratch. She deals in souls. Strange - TCM just had "The Devil and Daniel Webster" on - with John Huston as Mr. Scratch...looks just like her...

Ok. I see that now, since what I posted yesterday was before I saw last night's episode. But I wonder how long she will manage to keep this a secret, especially since her dad (who is another Happiness alumni, as he played rich father in that show) seems so curious about where she got the money and who her "friend" is.

So after watching last night:
-Eun-Nim's stepmom seems confused about why Eun-Nim needed to obtain the money. Eun-Nim did not have to get the money because the Nan-Jeong ran away and didn't donate some of her liver. The surgery would not have been free if Nan-Jeong gave up some of her liver, it would have to be paid for regardless of whether Nan-Jeong donated some of her liver or not. So, step-mom is wrong in saying that it's Nan-Jeong's fault that Eun-Nim had to borrow the money. Apparently they found a liver donor, so Eun-Nim should calm down on the hate for Nan-Jeong, since the liver donor problem got solved even though Nan-Jeong didn't want to help out.

-Nice conception dream you had there, plastic hair granny. But how were you planning on walking away while holding all those peppers in your skirt? Jaw Drop ....... Uh..Never mind, I don't want to know. But is it actually a conception dream since baby-broker lady said that a conception dream needs either tigers, carps, or fruit? I first thought no, it's not a conception dream since none of the above were in your dream, but after doing some research I discovered that peppers are indeed a fruit. Interesting that symbolism there. A pepper seems to be a fruit that masquerades as a vegetable and depending on the type of pepper it can be either sweet or hot/spicy. Those were red peppers and there was a bunch of them. I wonder if that's a foreshadowing of the hot and tumultuous events to come because of the masquerade taking place in regards to this pregnancy. Evil / Twisted

-So far, that white dog, Ari, is getting more air-time than some of the supporting actors/actresses on this show. Plus the step-mom thinks that Ari's doghouse is better than their new house. I wonder who this dog's agent is, that he has it so good on this show? Maybe Ari Gold from HBO's Entourage? Laugh Out Loud

-Gang Ho said "Yes Sir" to his grandmother and the subtitles translated it as "Yes Madam". I wonder what other stuff they mistranslate. Confused

-Nan-Jeong's eyes lit up and was all smiles when she walked into Gang-Ho's room. That is one of my favorite kdramaisms. Very Happy

-Once again the music co-ordinator for this show needs to be taught how to do his job. That silly music they played when baby-broker lady was explaining her self to kdrama writer + sister was totally out of place. Here they are crying and the mood of the scene was totally thrown out of wack with that clowning around music they were playing in the background. And SBS here's some advice: please learn how to properly mix the music so that it's not so loud in the mix that it overpowers what the actors are saying. It makes your shows look of cheap quality and not to be taken seriously. The volumes were terrible last night along with the show "Smile Honey". I don't know if it's the show's fault, or SBS, or TKC, but please fix this problem. Mad

-Once again over-sized sunglasses figure in prominently within this show. This time Kdrama writer's sister is trying to get in on the competition. But EMIL is a tough person to beat in this category because of those huge square frames that she has. However, I'm not sure why during EMIL and baby-broker's meeting, EMIL decided to take her sunglasses of this time and let baby-broker keep them on. I guess she felt bad for her since she has an eye infection. I'm not sure why only one person can wear sunglasses at a time. I've never heard of this type of etiquette. Confused Unfortunately though for all the over-sized sunglass wearing ladies on this show, Yun the lady mechanic from KBS's Jolly Widows has them all beat because of that gigantic welder's mask sun visor that she's sporting all the time, which is way bigger than any sunglasses worn on this show. But Yun the lady mechanic better notice that she's got some stiff competition in the clothing area with the women on this show because kdrama-writer and Nan-Jeong had on some pretty sweet overalls (Nan-Jeong's had that draw-string with a lounging at home look & kdrama-writer's had the clean, crisp, formal look) which looked way better than the working-class trash overalls that Yun wears. Razz

IT'S NOT YOUR BABY!!! How many times do I have to tell her? Rolling Eyes You've already sold it, Eun Nim! Now Ms Scratch will not only have to take the baby away by force, but may also decide to repossess Dad's new liver. Rolling Eyes And get the fee back! Nice going, Eun Nim!

I'll bet Favorite Son knocks up Moonlighting Girl. That would be a nasty complication.

Evil Step Sister is incredibly annoying - besides being strange looking. Who would want her for a girl friend? Rolling Eyes

This show is...BLAH. I don't feel strongly one way or another about it. It's just mediocre.

Oh, yeah. EMIL has a fantastic body. I swear she wasn't wearing any underwear under that yellow dress she had on. When she sat down at the table with Ms Scratch, it just clung sheerly to her fine ass. Later, when she had changed, I could see the outline of her panties under her dress. I wonder if they dress her like that deliberately?

TIME JUUUUUUMMMMPPPPPPP! again. Rolling Eyes

Eun Nim and Moonlighting Girl teaming up. I didn't see that coming. Now Eun Nim has re-met Unfavorite Son, who doesn't know she bore his brother's child. Interesting.

EMIL is starting to grow on me. I think it's because she's starting to express her self more. Plus, she really knows how to choose her words without over speaking. She just exudes style and class. She just sits there and she's a presence. Baby-broker lady mentioned that EMIL got stars in her eyes when she heard about the baby. Of course she did. Just, look at her body which was prominently on display in those stretch pants. Wink It's built for babies. She's hardwired to be thinking about babies. Those hips, breasts, and buttocks emanate fertility.

Plastic hair granny is calling kdrama mother's show boring and outdated. People in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks, granny. Razz You aren't exactly the most engaging character on this show. You need to spend some more time on Jeju island, where we don't have to hear from you. Plus she complains that EMIL doesn't listen to her while she's talking. Neither do I. Very Happy But at least I was able to take in EMIL (who was trying to zone out granny's boring conversation) and all her beauty while she was sitting there in that dress. I don't know why, but now, EMIL's hair no longer detracts from her beauty. Maybe it's because she's smiling more now. EMIL is my favorite on this show and definitely carrying it.

So, K-drama writer looks *tired* and her sister suggests that she go for an IV at the hospital?! Rolling Eyes Is this standard fare or is this kdrama over-exaggerated licensing?

Some quick style comments:
- After the time jump, K-drama writer's hair went from frantic-gambling addict frizzy to pseudo-intellectually short. Has she been cured of her gambling addiction and *tiredness* or did she just get better at disguising them?
- Nan-Jeong, I like your turquoise lounging outfit and that pose you were striking in it as you were lying down in the table in the backyard. But I think I've seen that outfit somewhere before. Did you by any chance get it from Glass Castle's Min Joo?
- Party boy slacker son, I liked your suit and hair after you got back from the US. Just remember, if you want to tie that hair up, don't make it look goofy. And the only time it's acceptable to ever wear cutesy animal character slippers is when you are trying to make your girlfriend smile by showing her how playful you can be. Very Happy
- What's the deal with that bar and all those neon fluorescent lights? How does anyone drink in there without going blind? Cool No wonder that girl quit.

Interesting to see some of the cellphone nicknames. The wife has her husband listed as 'hubby'. Cute. The husband has the wife listed as 'My Loving wife'. I guess he'll have to change that now. And the bartender has the husband listed as .... 'Daddy-Long Legs'. Huh? Rolling Eyes

So, let me get this straight, the k-drama writers for 'Dare to Love' considered themselves on par with doctors, and now k-drama writers for 'Love You Thousand Times' consider themselves on par with ... chaebol? I guess so, since on this show, k-drama writer's daughter was good enough to marry into a chaebol family. The finicky, snobby EMIL has allowed her precious son to marry the daughter of a k-drama writer and EMIL's only real complaint about DIL is that she can't have babies, not about her family's background or status. Whatever Rolling Eyes Well, when you're the writer of a show you can push any agenda you want and looks like k-drama writers are trying to make everyone change their views as to the place of k-drama writers in the social hierarchy of Korea.

Eun Nim saves her own baby, even though she doesn't know it, then gets a job working at the-father-of-her-child's-and-boyfriend-of-her-girlfriend's company, where Unfavorite Son has just started working. That seems to be going to extremes just to get back $13... Rolling Eyes

Again, BLAH. This show does nothing for me. I don't dislike it, but it generates no energy.

I have become very anti-Eun-Nim. I'm getting really sick of her self righteous attitude. Why is she blaming her sister for her father's work condition. Is it her sister's fault that her father's previous company folded and that he now has to work 2 unskilled labor positions? Her father was an upper-level manager for a small size company and he can't get a good job even though he has experience and somehow it's Nan-Jeong's fault. Confused And why is she still calling him our 'sick' father, even though his surgery was 3 years ago and he's now fine? Nice four way cat fight though. Very Happy I'm beginning to wonder if the father is working 2 jobs just so he has an excuse not be at home with all these emotional women. Plus we get another example of a Eun-Nim emotional overreaction when Gang-Ho tells her that he can't find her wallet, so she throws water in his face. Good one Eun-Nim. Confused Just more proof to support the theory that you are quite irrational.

At one point they played the main theme song on the acoustic guitar as background music and it sounded really nice.

Another night time hang-out where the neon lights are so bright that I wonder how anyone could see in that club. What is the fascination with all these lights? Confused Nan-Jeong made the right move by tagging along to the club. And party boy slacker son is following through on his plan to slowly make his way into her heart, even if he has to cut in on Gang-Ho's unwilling dancing. But he's going to have to stay more focused because last night he came home so drunk, that he entered the house with his sneakers on!

More attempted food violence as the Aunt feels the need to threaten to stab the party boy son with a broken bottle but decides that a suitable replacement would be ... a cucumber broken against the edge of the kitchen table. Laugh Out Loud

I noticed that after the time jump, the husband has changed his wife's cell phone contact name from 'My Loving Wife' to 'Wife'. I guess he's already done 'loving her a thousand times' within the past 3 years. Razz

Ah, the power of the word 'oppa'. All it takes is one utterance in front of your wife by a girl from your past and just watch the fireworks. I always get a kick out of watching these older ladies calling men from their past who are now married 'oppa'. I guess it's technically OK but you never know when some endearment might be attached behind that utterance, so it seems to be such a potentially dangerous word. Evil / Twisted

EMIL is quite right in insisting that Weak Uterus Girl's faux child learn English as early as possible, yet she seems to be vilified by the writers for this - as if she's abusing the kid.

Favorite Son seems torn between Weak Uterus Girl and Moonlighting Girl. He should just enjoy both. Every man should be allowed at least 3 women. It's a shortcoming of our society...

Has anyone noticed that Delivery Boy is actually prettier than Evil Step Sister?

Okay, I admit that WAS a good one. Laugh Out Loud

But, I'm only barely still watching this one. It just hasn't done a darn thing for me.

Honestly, Jim's reviews are a lot better than the show itself. Rolling Eyes

The running commentary has me rolling on the floor!! I have enjoyed this drama since ep 1. Resorting to the latest modern scientific techniques
to insure a grandchild brings these stodgy stories some edge. A VERY long time ago my novel professor said "Little things mean a lot." When
something insignificant enters, it will cause havoc later. It's fun to join the puzzle pieces. Kang Ho's tight pants and naked chest make the scenery
warm up on the snowy days. Has anyone noticed Hee Chul's black hair? It was red in the beginning. Also, almost all the women characters have
different hair styles by ep 42. EMIL's favorite son's mistress was supposed to be pregnant. Did she take a trip to the clilnic? Or did the writer forget.

Soompi stated there will be 55 eps instead of 50. I wonder which subplot will be dragged out to fill the void?

I'll bet the rooftop meeting between Unfavorite Son and Eun Nim was filmed on the roof of the SBS building. The view of Seoul seems identical to the one used at the beginning of SBS's "Morning Wide" show, and I noticed all those satellite dishes.

I can understand Grandma's not accepting Eun Nim. After all, she's just a lowly office girl, and we all know office girls are only ever secondary characters at best. Of course, Gang Whore deserves better, being the bastard son of the CEO and all... Rolling Eyes

What a tantrum Hot Mom threw at Gang Ho. Great acting one her part. She's also been soing a lot of leg in recent episodes. Good for her! She's probably the hottest woman on this show.
But I didn't see Moonlighting Girl at the wedding. As Eun Nim's best friend, she should have been there. Maybe she is, they just haven't shown it yet.

Granny telling Hot Mom that she might be getting dementia... Laugh Out Loud

The persecution of Eun Nim is about to begin...

I am at a loss, thes pretentious so call rich people are they that narrow minded? When most of them marry into so call rich family just for status! As I was onced asked would you marry a korean, my answer was No because their family structure I do not believe in.
No one disrespect me or my family no matter you an elder or otherwise, no one raises thier hand to hit me, because I will hit back. I do not do house work and have no interest in learning, I will not get up at 5:30 to cook anyone a meal when I do not do that in my own home. I will not take care of anyone family member when my family is self sufficient. So I will deinitely fit in. Lonely office girl, their high and mighty attitude astounds me.

Plus Korea or should I say Asia is a hierarchical society where everone call people not by their names but there positions, what nonsense is that.

Don't confuse Korea with Koreandramaland. Definitely not the same culture.

I don't see why Weak Uterus Girl is so upset about Moonlighting Girl (although she too, is a Lowly Cake Girl). Favorite Son should be allowed to have both. After all, everybody ought to have a mistress...er, maid... Rolling Eyes He should just have both of them, and both of them should just quietly accept it, and be grateful. Like I said to my Korean wife (just before she ripped my balls off), "I think I'll get me a girlfriend."

Eun Mi is just an Office Girl. She should be grateful to get as many lines as she is getting in this drama, and thank vicious old Granny for all the abuse she gets. e2x6

Could not, not watch the cryfest 54th ep. But the 55th was a must. Would Eun Nim live or die? The ending was a typical
disappointing Kdrama drag.
I also believe if a man wants a mistress, he should have one. Afterall, what would all those young chippies do with their free time after buying Manolo's?
In the musical, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, the song: Everybody Ought to Have a Maid has the
same sentiments. Miles Gloiosus epitoizes men's thoughts about women; he is one of my favorite comedic characters.

Last week a native Korean stated 80% of Koreandramaland exists in Korea. Last month a Korean-American young man thought about it and said people
in Korea do not give others a chance to explain in family/societal situations. Lately on other sites bloggers/commenters/discussions have mentioned the
closed mentality of the characters in Kdramas. Of course this trait makes for a more complicated, convoluted plot.

Which will it be? Moonlighting Girl, or Weak Uterus Girl? Favorite Son has a real problem - he loves them both. This is why men should be allowed at least 2 wives.

So, Eun Nim is being blackmailed...Gee, I didn't see that coming... Rolling Eyes

I love that scene where Eun Min enters her sister-in-laws house. Baby broker lady is eating fruit with a fork and when she realizes who is at the door, she lets the fork drop from her hand and sits there stupified. Laugh Out Loud Classic stuff. And she didn't look too shabby in the turquoise dress that she was wearing. She might give EMIL a run for her money in a mature lady curvy figure contest. Wink

Hot Mom is the hands down winner in middle age bods. She looks great in hats too.
