but is anyone else not following this easily?

I'm a committed historical fan but this is the first time (well, other than 1945) I've not been able to connect to one.

I'm recording them, but reading the summaries instead of watching. There's so much action that I can't figure out what's going on, and it doesn't get explained until some later episode.

I haven't read ahead on the Chicago board -- can anyone offer some encouragement?

I typically enjoy the historicals as well. I am finding it hard to get into Sejong. He is to mild mannered for me. I am going to stick with it for a bit to see if it picks up but I am not going to get my hopes up.

Well you know I have the 20 episode philosophy but here it's making me worry.
It actually has some nice writing in places like the envoy being Korean and the sweet reunion with his sister but the rest of the time they drag it out or speed right by it.
I'm still hopeful and I know it's early days but it seems to be a palace based show were I do prefer action based.

I will say from a music video of the theme I stumbled on...
Spoiler (Click here to reveal) :

The Japanese spy shows up later though how much he'll do and what it will mean who knows.
The prince also gets shot with an arrow it seems as he's rushing to see his child born.

since Sejong has to rebuilt "The Gate" I'm hopping something happens to make rebuilding necessary. Laugh Out Loud

I've never skipped a show since I first turned on Wang Gunn, I even made it through Dawn of the empire and Age of warriors. (though there may have been some unplanned napping.)
so I'll tough this out but I hope it's a short series. (70 episodes)

Well, I just saw episode 56 over the weekend. 55 was a real doozie. I can't compare it to any other historical. Sejong is an intellectual who struggles against using the sword contrasted to his father who uses the sword first and always. Sometimes it is really confusing, but as time goes on, it really isn't anymore. I think the difficulty often is that characters do things using information we don't have & sometimes those actions aren't explained very well. Another problem is that WYBE's version is pretty cut up making the problem worse.

It is an amazing show if you try hard not to compare it to the swashbuckling historicals we know and love. As it moves along, it has elements of all those shows EOTS, Jumong, YSS, etc. One thing I have learned is what an amazingly progressive little country Korean was & how many scientific and other technological break throughs it made. In that respect, GKS is definitely different than regular historicals. I find myself really admiring Sejong...maybe that is why he is the "Great King Sejong". I hope people will stick with it. Wink

I hear you - I keep remembering there were concerns expressed by more than a few around episode 15 of DJY, but I didn't have so much trouble hanging on to that one.

And Debster, thanks for the hope! I'll try to hang in!

Hang in there! There are only 80 episodes, so this isn't one of the super long KDs Bouncing Grin

iPod, too...maybe Laugh Out Loud

Speaking of swash buckling...Chilwu the Mighty based on sort of a Zorro theme (with Spanish bullfighting OST) is a kick...assassins defending the downtrodden. I hope we can get that for the VC. f3w6

The only real problem with this show is that the first 30 episodes should have been 3 or 4...

The name of the show is The Great King Sejong, and he doesn't even appear 'til 1/3 of the show is over...

You might want to switch to a 30 episode philosophy...

I just heard recently that one of the stars of the drama to follow Sejong fell off a horse and injured their leg,
the producers of Sejong were asked to extend it by at least 5 episodes to give the follow up show a chance
to start filming again...

I know you don't like spoilers...But how about a little taste of episode 46???
If you're going to quit watching anyway...what could it hurt...
Sejong who is finally a King just ordered...
Spoiler (Click here to reveal) :

A huge naval assault on the island of Tsushima (Part of today's Japan)...
Boats and cannons and swords...Oh my!!!!!

Attack of Tsushima

I've been waiting for Chilwu, and it finally starts in Chicago on Wednesday (maybe)...

Is it as good as "Hong Gil Dong"??? I could use a little historical comedy/satire...

Episode 46 clip - Woohoo indeed! Pam-po-rahhhhhhh!
Looks like it's deja vu all over again with the "other" Yi Sun Shin. That was the same actor in the clip wasn't it? I really like him.
Something to look forward to. Thanks for lifting our spirits.
