On Friday-April 4th, I went down to Baltimore to attend a symposium on the Korean Wave at Johns Hopkins University. Here is a link to the MKTV online newscast. The highlights of the symposium are towards the middle of this broadcast. Incidentally, I became friendly with MKTV reporter Reina Lee who covered the event and I briefly played cameraman for her at the end of her segment. That's the part where she's on camera with the campus in the background. Latter, we had a humorous moment when we got lost enroute to the restaurant where the symposium participants were dining. She invited me to join them, but I couldn't since I was rushing to get back to New York. Please note that the telecast is in the Korean language with no English subs. I was told that the Korean Cultural Service sponsored this event.

The panel discussion was led by Professor Charles Armstrong from Columbia University, with Professor Robert Cagle from the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, Professor John Nihoff of the Culinary Institute of America, and Ji Lee, the International Relations Manager at the Korean Cultural Service.

When you get to the MKTV screen, press the Orange PLAY button at the bottom right side.

Bummer--I just tried and it said "no access, clear file/pathway"...or something like that.

I could view it, but before I did my computer prompted me to run an ActiveX add-on for Windows Media Player. I ran it and was able to watch the video. Nice camera skills Manny!!

Sorry that people were having trouble accessing. I haven't seen any problems from my end, yet.

But here's how to access this the long way.

Go to www.mediakoreatv.com and click on the ORANGE BUTTON on the TOP RIGHT HAND SIDE where it says ENG for English.

Then go to MENU BAR at the TOP (which lists ABOUT MKTV, PROGRAMS, SCHEDULE, etc.) and put the cursor above PROGRAMS which should bring you a scroll down menu. Click on the first one which is MK NEWS.

Go to the TOP of the LEFTSIDE BAR and under the MKTV News heading, Click the first link which also says MKTV News. You should get another LEFTSIDE BAR. Under MENU, click on VOD BOARD.

You should get the MKTV screen with a list of online VOD underneath. Click on the the ORANGE PLAY BUTTON to the right of APRIL 7, 2008-MKTV News.

Oh, and you may need to upgrade to Windows Media Player 10.0

We must have done at least a dozen takes from two different locations near and around the outside area of the campus. My arm was killing me, at one point, but it was all good!
I'm drumming up interest regarding my planned symposium! I had a nice chat with Professor Cagle (I wish I could afford to fly him down from Chicago for my event!) and he was pleasantly surprised that I was setting up this symposium. I promised to update him on further developments!
Reina Lee of MKTV knows all about it, as well, and likewise, I will be updating her on what I'm planning. Tomorrow afternoon, I am scheduled to meet with one of the staffers down at the Korean Cultural Service to work out a few things. We don't have any firm schedule yet, but it looks like we are moving in the right direction! The symposium won't happen until the fall or late summer, at the earliest, but with all this time for preparation, I hope we can set up a really good event! I look forward to a good turnout from the Korean Drama Group!

OMG, I am really sorry, Kelly! I completely forgot that you lived in the Baltimore area. I definitely would have told you about it had I remembered. Incidentally, there have been some interesting developments regarding my own symposium. When the time comes, I will be posting relevant information!
