I don't think Kang Jung Hwa is especially pretty, and I agree that she can't act worth a crap (after only 2 episodes yet!). The 2 younger ones are very cute. I want!

A nice girl always loves her family but she must respect yours too. Plus have a sense of self without being selfish. Why Good looking guys are detestable sometimes too.

Well " live and learn" BUT some of us like to watch and learn and get the better end for ourselves.

Yes, if you couldn't tell already (which I doubt ), in K-dramas, I usually go for looks first. But it's still kind of a tossup for me. Usually, my rule for loving a female character is that they have to have a combination of good looks and a sweet, "cute", gentle personality - the total package. This is why I loved Guk-hwa from PIH and In-kyung from MSMD: in my opinion, they both had the total package of good looks and a gentle, sweet personality.

However, as with any rule, there is an exception. If I think a female character is insanely beautiful, her beauty can override any nasty attitude she has in my mind, and I will fall in love with her. I'll go back to my example that I've used countless times, Jae-seo's girl from PIH. She was evil, no doubt about it. But I thought she was unbelievably pretty, so I loved her. This is also the case with Eun-joo from this show - I think she's gorgeous, so I love her, "bad attitude" and all.

It's like I said before...to me, beauty is the great equalizer in K-dramas.

Of course, I look at things much differently in real life.

The bride's dad, Yoon Jae-due in SHEW, played Minister Yoon(evil) in Immortal Yi Soon Shin. This is the historical drama I remember him from. (of course)

I noted in the other thread that Sanghyeon's dad was the one who played OohHyuk's dad in Seoul 1945. It doesn't look like him in the group picture.

Has anyone mentioned that YSS's mom in Immortal Yi Soon Shin is also in SHEW? She is SangYeon's mom.

After watching parts of three K-Dramas, here's something I noticed: During pub, coffee shop, or restaurant scenes, American music is being played in the background at least 80% of the time. Often, it's without lyrics, or the lyrics are being sung by a different or unknown artist.

I'm ready to play "Name that Tune" when these scenes start, but I'm not very good. Usually, I know the music can't name the song. But, I knew this one right away from Episode 20 of SHEW...it had no lyrics, just a piano and violin:

I did notice that too, and even some signs in the backgrounds are in English! I wonder why they do that?

It's the effect of 60 odd years of American influence on Korea. Even in the early 70s, American music was played as much as Korean music. English was used on many signs initially for military reasons, or to attract the business of Americans in Korea (mainly military), but it's become the second language of Korea - for better or worse. The modern trend is, no doubt due to the influence of pop-culture.

Heaven & Earth will be available thru the VC as usual.

Yes it is a jump from comedy to all around melt down.
But LMR You have to enjoy the built up in drama to a good fight!!

I am a very devoted wrestling fan - and I enjoy our Korean Drama group so much, I wish there was one like it for WWE wrestling fans.

The show is growing on me and before you know it, I am sure I will be looking forward to it every night. I don't think it will get to where I was with PIH though - the minutes just flew by when it was on, and I hated Fridays because I wouldn't get to see any of the characters again until Monday!

The tone of a Board is set by the people running the Board. If you want it to be warm and fuzzy - you make it warm and fuzzy.

 

Mold is warm and fuzzy. You want something that's cold and scaly.

Wrestling fans CAN be warm, fuzzy, kind and considerate. You should have seen the reaction during Wrestlemania weekend for all of the Make A Wish kids - very heartwarming and touching. I was even more proud that usual to be a wrestling fan that day!

i just caught an episode of this tonight and i was sitting there thinking that the birth grandmother looked so familiar to me. it was driving me crazy! then i realized it's the same actress who played the grand empress dowager and grandmother of empress chun chu.
