Ok, they jumped back more than 5 years. They went all the way back to 1933. It is interesting to see how the characters met and how their differing ideals were formed.

Boy, I tell you what - the Baron's daughter is a little b*tch, isn't she? If I didn't know better , I would say she was a young Nara.

He really does look alot like LCH, just a little older, especially without the mustache! My daughter walked in right after it started and saw the little b*tch's uncle and said "isn't that Min-Jae?" I laughed and said that's what everyone here was saying! Laugh Out Loud

The chubby guy that asked for the baron's daughter's autograph and then played her record on that old record player in the radio room of the mine was one of YSS' soldiers that fought alongside him against the barbarians. He also came back later in the series and fought alongside YSS against the japanese as the 'holy archer'.

I agree. (I guesse we'll have to settle for someone who "kinda" looks like him for now ladies... it's better than nothing, right? Laugh Out Loud )

Okay, so..... some of the characters had Japanese names. Based on a book I read -- during the Japanese occupation -- Koreans were strongly encouraged, and later forced to use Japanese names. I believe eventually Hangul was outlawed... and perhaps even speaking Korean in public. (Jason??)

Was Korea still partially operating in a feudal system in the 1930's? When Kim Hae-Kyong's said she wanted to attend high school -- her mother answered by saying that she could not make such a decision without asikng the Barron.

Boy, this one always ends in a cliff hanger! Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud I like it.

Last night's show...am I correct in assuming that the 2 guys
(sitting outside the copper mill having their break)told the
young boy Oonhyuk not to grow up to be like the Baron,
are the 2 North soldiers who get killed in the jail
court yard at the beginning of episode 2.

And at the end of episode 1 didn't those same 2 North soldiers get killed by the nasty looking South Korean Captain/General not by a firing squad?
He shot them in the heart first, then the firing squad?

And the little girl Eun/Oonhyuk sister is that the cutie from YH?
Why did her Missy Moon get all b*tchy & throw the cookies at them?

Plus, was Auntie from MSMD in a traditional style kimono because
they had just travel from there, she was suppose to be Japanese,
or because of past occupation of Japan on the country?

Chris

We noticed him too. Also the soldier who is usually with the mean "General" (I guess) is the famous potter from YSS. Not the old potter who was killed by Wakizaka, but the potter who was learning alongside YSS. He was also "Chief" in Yellow Handerchief.

Yuna from YH was also cute. I hope we see more of her. Very Happy

No. I don't think so.

Yeah, it was kind of confusin because scenes were different. My guess is he shot them in the heart first, then the firing squad

I am not sure she is the same person. Probablly not because she should be a lot older by now.

I am not sure, but I think the little girl touched her.

Are you talking about the wife of the Baron? She is the adopted daughter of Governor of Occupied Korea. She is of Korean origin, but she thinks she is Japanese. Anyway, the Baron because of his FIL becomes the most powerful person.

There are 3 groups of people in Korea during the Japnese occupation. There were traitors who served the emperor of Japan for their personal gains. Those who collaborated with Japan were rewarded handsomely. Then there were people who risked everything to fight against the Japanese. They include communists. They would work undergound or went to China or America for freedom and participated the independence movement. Then the 3rd group of people were the vast majority of Koreans. They were forced to change their name to Japanese version and speak Japanese, etc. Japan really tried to kill the Korean culture and language during 36 years of the occupation.

Quote:
Okay, so..... some of the characters had Japanese names. Based on a book I read -- during the Japanese occupation -- Koreans were strongly encouraged, and later forced to use Japanese names. I believe eventually Hangul was outlawed... and perhaps even speaking Korean in public. (Jason??)

Japnese was the official language in the occupied Korea. But they could not really force it when some people simply could not speak/understand Japanese. So Japan concentrated on school children. All clasased were taught in Japanese. That is why most of older generation Koreans (70 or older) know how to speak Japanese.

As I explained above, the Baron is supposed to be the most powerful person in the occupied Korea because of his FIL. Her family can leave the Baron anytime they wanted, but they probablly did not want to.

These child actors in Seoul 1945 are actually veterans and you will really miss them when adults actors replace them later.

Questions:

1. Which one appeared in Goong (The Palace)
2. Which one appeared in AOW and Myung Sung Whang Hoo (The Last Empress Myung Sung)?

3. Which one appeared in Stairway to Heaven?

His name is Hong Yo Seob, and he is a lot older than LCH. He is 55 years old. Thanks to Seoul 1945 he is winning a lot of fans. They, mostly women, talk about the character's charisma.

The bottom, big picture of the girl was in Stairway to Heaven, I loved her in that, she had such a big role.

The second male picture was in Goong. He was the funny brother of Choon-hyang(was that her name?) the girl who married Shin and thought to be Queen later on.

The rest I don't recognize.

thank you Jason for all of your info!

I knew the girl from STH but was racking my brains for where I saw "Ook-hyun". Now I know he's from Goong.

I just watched my tape of this ep, it was very good! Very Happy

No one mentioned abother familiar face though! Wink There was a guy who worked for the Baron at his copper factory, more like a foreman, not a laborer. I didn't catch his name, he was in two scenes I think, but I recongnized him. It took a minute, but I got it: He played Heejoo's (CG) dad in MSMD! Sorry but I didn't have any luck finding a picture of him from either drama. Sad

So this is intersting, Suk-kyung ends up in the South but her uncle ends up as a high-up official type in the North!

Thanks for all the info Jason!

The Baron's wife, her manners & style of dress makes more sense.
And the kimono's she is costumed in are BEAUTIFUL!

The little girl touching her skirt...made young Yukei Moon freak out..WOW!
I guess the little girl child should have know her place.
Pick up her cookies out of the dirt & go home.

Karma Jason!
Praise you! Chris

I think I made KD addicts out of my daughters - we watched Stairway to Heaven a few weeks ago and they are hooked! My youngest noticed right away the young girl from STH in Seoul 1945 - as a matter of fact, she begged to stay up and watch it with me even before she knew who was in it! And she is only 11 - she's got many years of KDs in front of her now!

Older daughter (16 yrs) now has Stairway to Heaven all over her myspace pages and has started grabbing the dramas I have on VCD and DVD and watching on her own. She and the 11 year old are watching Wonderful Life right now. The funny thing was, when they started watching Seoul 1945 with me, they saw the girl who was facing the firing squad - and starting saying..."shoot her, shoot her now" cause they are right in the middle of Wonderful Life where Han Eun Jung is causing so much trouble between the young married couple!
