Actually, white is ALL colors. Black is not a color - it is the absence of color.

Similarly, there is no quantifiable thing as "cold" - there is only the absence of heat.

Well, here's your chance to ejumicate your friend. And when he/she says, "You must think I'm stupid or something", you can reassure him/her that there is no such thing as stupidity - there's only the absence of intelligence.

While the quote may not be technically correct - it gets the sentiment across rather nicely. So, no, I won't be "correcting" her.

This is true of light, not pigment.

http://www.colormatters.com/vis_bk_white.html

Black is (theoretically) the combination of red, blue and yellow (the primary colors).

White is (technically) the absence of color, as you can't mix pigment to create white.
However, in the art world, there are substances which are added to paint base to create shades of white, and paper itself is bleached white, which is a chemical reaction, much like adding pigment to paint to create the different colors.

So Theresa and her friend are correct as well...

Le sigh. Rolling Eyes

Don't even know why I bother to post links if no one uses them... b1k9

Quote:

The color of a tangible object originates as a molecular coloring agent on the surface of the apple. We see the color of an object because that object reflects “a color” to the eye. Every color is the effect of a specific wavelength.

In the case of the apple, we see the color red because the red apple reflects the specific wavelength of red (440nm is red).

The same theory applies to black and white.

Is black a color?

No, black is not a color; a black object absorbs all the colors of the visible spectrum and reflects none of them to the eyes.

In physics, a black body is a perfect absorber of light.

Is white a color?

Yes, white is a color. White reflects all the colors of the visible light spectrum to the eyes.

As you claim to be a professional photographer, I wonder that you seem so ignorant of the above facts.

Just sayin'.

You're "Just sayin'" what I originally wrote:

So we're in agreement. But if what I say makes ME ignorant and you agree with it.................. Laugh Out Loud

Welcome back.

Bob, please don't put words into my mouth.

I said both views were correct, depending on the situation.
The link provides examples of both situations.

But...if you want to admit publicly that you're ignorant, I can't stop you. huh
