Angel's Temptation : Great drama...Loved it even though it was far fetched at times. But it's a K-dram what do you expect. Wink I liked the ending...made it different.

Currently Watching:
Smile Honey-cute and lighthearted
Three Brothers-good...for anyone who liked First Wives Club or Sol Pharmacy this one is following along those lines.
Jewel Bibimbap/Assorted Jewels -Off and on...its ok.

Planing to Watch:
IRIS
Boys Over Flowers ( I totally loved the Japanese Version but only got around to the 1st eps of the K-Version)
Beethoven Virus
City Hall (cuz Adrienne liked it so and my favorite KSS actress Kim Sun Ah is in it.)
When It's At Night (again Kim Sun Ah is in it)

I gave up on Jolly Widows a long time ago...I get bored of the "Ajumma dramas" kind of quick.

Youre' Beautiful/He's Beautiful I saw 1 or 2 eps but it reminded me of a mix of Coffee Prince and Boys Over Flowers. Nothing new and it didn't really impress me but I might give it a chance again if I have nothing else to watch.

Hwagjini was excellent. Son of Sol Pharmacy was very good.

Hot Blood I got truly bored with and gave up on that one. The whole car salesman thing to me was boring as hell. I think they are trying to get more Male viewers with this one.

Taming of the Heir for me is boring too I saw a couple of eps and it just did nothing for me...the leads were dull...the lead male was great in My Precious You but in this one he is so dumb.

Is Brilliant Legacy the Same as Brilliant Inheritance...If so I REALLY liked that one!

Marlene DON'T watch When It's At Night!!!!! As much as I love Kim Sun Ah it just wasn't that good. Plus the two leads didn't have any chemistry(at least to me) and the pairing felt forced. Now City Hall on the other hand was GREAT!!! I really loved it.
And yes Brillant Legacy is the same as Brilliant Inheritance.

Greg, what did you think about the Japanese version? I think you didn't like it very much because you didn't post anything about it. I guess you're a strict Kdrama fan.

If the Drama of the Month chooses another drama that you might like, I hope you'll come back and join us in watching once again. It was great to have your input.

Just finished Righteous Ties. I really enjoyed this "gangster" movie. Some very funny stuff interwoven with the violence. Some familiar faces... Here's a review that gives you a better idea... http://www.beyondhollywood.com/righteous-ties-2006-movie-review/

I just watched "Beef Soup" - an SBS 2 episode drama that starts in 1919 and ends in the 80s (?). It's about the symbiotic relationship betweem a man's wife (married as children) and his first mistress (a mole girl). It was very touching. It would have made a great mini-series.

Just watched the Chinese movie Tuya's Marriage... I liked it... though for most it would probably be too slow moving.

You're right...after watching the Korean version, I just could not get into the Japanese one at all. I dunno, the Korean one just overall felt like a higher quality show to me - just my humble opinion, of course.

Like I said in the IRIS thread, I'll catch you guys on the next one (whatever that may be) if it piques my interest.

Queen Seonduk - every superlative you could ever imagine
Tenchijin - The only Japanese historical drama I've seen, entertaining but low-key compared to the Korean ones; the pony tails on the men were outstanding.

Currently Watching:
Jumong - rewatching on DVD set with truly awful (but entertaining) subs

Planning to Watch:
Slave Hunters ?

Agreed
Spoiler (Click here to reveal) :

And the death scene of Joo Ah Ran was one of the most moving that I have ever scene in a kdrama.

Smile Honey is so great that it has entered my list of all time favorites.

I felt the same about Will it Snow for Christmas. 1st 2 episodes seemed interesting (when the leads were teenagers) but I thought that they totally screwed up the story when they had the brother drown while trying to find the pendant. At that point the series lost all of its momentum. And then the leads grew up, they introduced new love interests and it became totally slow paced and boring.
Animefanzgirl wrote:

I saw 5 minutes of this and decided it's not for me. One scene seemed too silly and another scene was too romantic.
Animefanzgirl wrote:

Yes, different titles for the same show. I thought Brilliant Legacy was OK. Touching story of repentance. Interesting characters.

Finished Watching:
Films:
The Chaser - This entered my list of top favorite films. Based on a true story of a serial killer. Very intense film but with enough variation to keep it interesting. The lead character is excellent as the ex-cop seeking to catch the killer.
A Bittersweet Life - Average. Gangster doesn't do the will of his boss and has to pay. Some OK actions scenes but plot is basically kill them before they kill me.
Old Boy - This left a bad taste with me. Too crazy a story line and subject matter explored was too taboo.

Currently Watching:
Jejoongwon - This is one is really cool. But you have to suspend disbelief. A western doctor, Dr. Allen, sets up the first hospital in Korea and the natives are scared that he's out to eat them. The doctor proves that western medicine is OK by performing brain surgery in front of the emperor and colon/rectal surgery in front of the villagers. His nemesis is an evil Japanese doctor who wants Japan to introduce Western medicine into Korea. But the real protagonist is "Light-Weight-Dog" who is Dr. Allen's assistant. His rival is Mr. Baek, the son of the late Minister of Justice, who forced "Light-Weight-Dog" to do an autopsy on his friend. Lady Soshona, from Jumong, is in this and she is always happy and smiling but it's genuine and not fake. Plus she wears the biggest hanbok ever. And you also have the best sidekick/valet/assistant ever in the character of "Stick", who worries about every thing but has that old world peasant charm. I totally recommend this kdrama for some kzaniness, while observing the rejection of Western culture by 19th century Korea.

Chit-Chat of Beautiful Ladies - KBS World talk show that features foreigners, mostly women, but some men, talking in Korean with a host(s) and a few Korean celebrity guests. Main topic of the show is the exploration of Korean culture through the eyes of foreigners and the understanding of non-Korean cultures. It's a very interesting show with a lot of comedic moments and of course a lot of beautiful ladies. Wink I totally recommend this show to anyone who wants to learn more about the things that are shown on kdramas but aren't fully explained. For instance I learned that Christmas in Korea is like Valentine's day in the US; it's meant for couples and that's why kdramas try to mention it. I also learned that they are 1 million foreigners in S. Korea and 1 out of 8 marriages is to a foreigner! The show is on Mondays at 12:50 AM on Ch 532 on time warner cable in queens.

I'm now up to Ep. 18 and am waiting for the English subs... should go to Ep. 20... If you liked Coffee Prince and My Lovely Sam Soon then I think you will really enjoy this one... very engaging cast.
