I guess that when Korean people watch these dramas,
they already know what's accurate, and what's "korea-drama-land baloney."
Meanwhile, we US citizens are left with "the fact" that people get married
only because "they look good together." And all mothers-in-law are from hell.

But if Korean TV wants to go global big time, which they obviously do,
they ought to read our posts about "What we learned about Korea from watching TV."
Once they stop laughing, they might want to find another bench overlooking the river.
And eliminate from the script, the phrase "I'm sorry"........every 5 minutes.

Jim...what was she after she got married? Ogress?

That was her line in SBS's "Dare to Love" when the virgin psychic was trying to tell her how to raise her daughters. Laugh Out Loud

So, Song Tae was beaten and abused by his father...I suppose that does justify what he did to Su In. Rolling Eyes

Was it ever established what state Song Tae and Su In lived in? I ask that because last night she said he put her in the hospital for a month and she didn't press charges in exchange for a divorce. In many states it's no longer left up to a spouse to press, or not press, charges in matters of domestic violence. Once the police have been called, and the facts established, the batterer will face prosecution IRregardless ( Razz ) of whether or not the victim presses charges I know that's the case in Colorado and Texas, but I couldn't say for sure about all states. And it doesn't have to involve actual battery, either. When my friend Suzie's (now ex) husband got drunk and started breaking things, she called the cops and he was carted off to jail, even though he didn't lay his hands on her. She didn't have the option of pressing or not pressing charges.

Also, Song Tae's remark about the neighbors and the restraining order against him don't ring trus. The neighbors would have nothing to do with a restraining order Su In had on him.

The problem is that Korean people (like most people in the world) don't understand that there is very little United States law: most law is established by individual states and there's often significant variation from state to state. Of course, in Koreandramaland, there is no law to speak of... Rolling Eyes

I remember Suin saying they lived in California.

There was a new river bench view in "Innocent You", about 2 episodes ago. Mi Jin and this slimy PI were on a bench under a bridge with a view that looked across the river through the pylons. It was quite a shot - very unique. "Innocent You" has had some excellent direction.

There you go.
I'll take this as definite proof that the kdrama writers
are taking our brilliant suggestions and advice to heart.

What's next?
Trouble finding a parking space at a skyscraper's front entrance?

I would not mind living in Kdramaland. I could run Slime Boy through a wood chipper, then pay off his family at the local police station -plus- everybody that came to my house would remember to remove their shoes before trodding on my new carpeting.

Who does he think he is? Nara?
Did those women in the clinic not have their cell phones - or were all the batteries pulled out?
But I guess Su In is lucky the police weren't called, or she's be sitting in jail for being slapped by Song Tae!
What a wimp Hyun Su is! First he passively lets Song Tae pound on him, then he merely hits him back once - and very pathetically at that! I guess he really doesn't love Su In, knowing what the great Song Tae did to her and hitting only once, so pathetically! Rolling Eyes But I suppose he's lucky too - THAT SONG TAE DIDN'T HAVE HIM LOCKED UP FOR ASSAULT! This IS Koreandramaland, after all...c3q3

I want to move to Koreandramaland so I can slap pregnant women and crush the weak and helpless!

I had to look up your unusual word: impunity.
The dictionary says that it means that nobody within 500 feet has a cell phone,
and that the aforementioned slap took place in a country with no police force.

So I guess that you saw the episode when Sleazy followed Suin
into the "Impunity Hospital Clinic," huh?

Helpful medical hint ---> You better have your miracle-working
humidifier going full blast, conveniently located near your TV,
for the episodes coming up soon.

I wanna live in a country where I can go into a hospital and find out everything about anyone's medical condition just by telling the duty nurse I'm that person's mother...

Hyun Su's family is just now figuring out Su In isn't her mother's real daughter? Quick, Theresa! Sign them up as Mods! a6b5

Another reason to think of "The Road Home" as so annoying......
We haven't looked too closely at "Mom the Doctor."

During a charming "mother and daughter" conversation with Jisu,
she told mom how she isn't sure about her feelings for Hiro,
especially since at age 27, she's never had a boyfriend before.
Does she like him, or is it just a frindship from work?

And what kind of helpful advice did she get from mom?
"He's a foreigner, and he's only a male model, so don't get serious."
Keep it up, mom.
At this rate.....think of all the money you'll save, by never having to buy
a mother-of-the-bride, or a mother-of-the-groom, gown for the wedding.

Yep. Definitely a witch in the making. Evil / Twisted
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And I still want to know:
Where's the Chinese boyfriend?"
Not only a foreigner, but Japanese! I wonder if that's as bad as American? Confused
I have read all of the post and have laughed so much!!
Some of the more serious ones about spousal abuse and benfits for unemployment show how countries and even states in US have different view pooints.
But I have a funny situation from a newbie to K-Dramas,
I have a friend from work who also watches this drama. He asked me last month is it a Korean custom for Huyon Su to insist on driving Su In home from work and then never waits for her to enter building safely.
Rolling Eyes
I didn’t want to spoil it for him, by saying she is bait for big bad wolf. Well, he got his answer the other night; when Huyon Su left Su In as bait to Xtra Special Songtae wolf !!!!
Wimp-boy Hyun Su should get down on his knees and beg Song Tae's mercy. I thought he was going to do just that as he was sitting there, trembling in fear while Song Tae warned him to stay away from his woman. Good thing Su In discovered what a whus he is - now she can go back to her M-A-N!
Stimulate Dad's brain with an operation? Why? He just fell asleep because he was so bored with the early episodes... Rolling Eyes Perhaps they should try brain massage, instead of leg massage... Rolling Eyes
I can just see Hiro's next attempt to get Jizz Yu's attention: he serves her braised puppy, made from...You guessed it!
I found out the name of Suin's evil ex-husband!
It's ~ Kim Joo-hwan. Jaw Drop
If you go to Han Cinema, they have 3 or 4 photographs of him,
but the only one where he "looks" like Seongtae (sp?) is the one
where he's wearing the eyeglasses.
In the other photos, he looks.......uhhh.....normal.
So we're gonna' have to keep our eyes open, and watch out for this guy! Evil / Twisted
I'm not sure that this will work ~ I usually mess up
the "address" somewhere along the line.....................
http://www.hancinema.net/korean_Kim_Joo-hwan.php?nopage%5B8%5D=1
Don't be fooled by the photo of the guy in the black jacket.
It's the guy in the maroon sweater and the eyeglasses
that we have to watch out for. And there's no mustache in the photo,
so if you still don't recognize him, you'll have draw one on his face......
.....and you'll get Suin's evil ex-husband. Very Happy
