It was just on the television news that Michael Jackson has died. He was found at home, not breathing, was given CPR on the way to the hospital, but he was dead on arrival of a cardiac arrest. I guess there will be more details later, but this was just given on the news. He was 51 years old.

I was never a fan of his, but he did die awfully young. RIP Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson and Farah Fawcett both die on the same day. How sad. I was not a fan of Michael. He seemed like such a tortured soul. RIP.

This was a real shock. So young, but he did look frail.

I'm old enough to remember when he first sang with the Jackson Five (his older brothers) on television. He was just a little pipsqueak, five years old, and he came out and sang and danced like a little pro. He was adorable back then.

Then he disappeared for a while and came back years later as a teenager (he'd only had his nose fixed at that time). If he'd left his face alone, he would have been very handsome. But over time, with his numerous surgeries, his looks became weirder and weirder and his behavior more and more bizarre.

Although I wasn't much of a fan after he grew up (except for 3 or 4 songs) I realize he had a great talent and he is still loved and admired around the world.

Farrah Fawcett's death was expected because she'd been so ill, but his death was a complete shock.

As I just posted on another forum, I'm not even one to follow celebrities, and I'm totally shocked right now...it hasn't fully sunk in yet that he's gone. We all have to go sometime, but like Maria just said, this came completely out of nowhere. Sad

I am totally speechless right now too. I wasn't a huge fan but he was so very talented and gifted. But like Jigsaw said, he was a tortured soul.

So sad. RIP. Crying

I'm fairly inured to this type of event in this business and I wasn't a big fan, but I saw the talent up close and understand the sense of loss.

I got to photograph him at 2 concerts in 1988. Here's a shot from Madison Square Garden in March of that year:

bob- that's an awesome pic of Michael in his prime.

It's hard to believe that the man that you photographed is the same man that passed away today. He metamorphasized into a very confused and confusing individual. It's a sad thing that he passed, but at least it was mercifully quick rather than Farrah Fawcett's protracted suffering.

That is so true Joy. He was at his prime there. And now his suffering that made him morph that way is over. Sad

Bob that's the way I want to remember him Crying I cried all the way home from my walk/run group. Right before I got there the radio had broke the news he had a heart attack and they were performing CPR. When I got in the car to go home this station was doing a marathon of his music and I called Mr. Laurie and he told me what I already knew he had passed away.

This is a double blow today. With Farrah I prayed to God and asked that he take her and end her suffering after watching the TV special in May it was heart breaking to see someone so beautiful, so young in my opinion, and full of life fighting such a brutal battle to live. We expected to hear this soon and it was not a shock and like others have said his death is so shocking. I am praying for his children who are so young and who he kept so private. I have opinions about his parents and they are not good ones but no parent should ever have to bury their child just like Farrah's father who had already dealt with her sister's passing. I pray that Farrah's son finally gets his act together once he's out of jail and lives a full uneventful life. It's so sad that she did not have him their with her.

I am currently watching the news and I am annoyed because it's like yeah Farrah died but we knew that would happen so we are done talking about her. Even on MSN the whole top page is a tribute to him and in the entertainment section there's a little area for her.

Ooops! That photo was NOT taken at Madison Square Garden in 3/88. It was taken at the Meadowlands Arena in 10/88.

The below MJ cover shot was taken at the Garden in 3/88. As you can see, it's a very high-class magazine that doesn't cater to silly teenage girls in the least.

A better version of the photo can be found on my site.

This was a huge shock and definitely a sad loss. His music was great and quite literally touched millions. Don't forget how amazing of a dancer he was too! I have always thought it a shame that the generation younger than mine only knew him as a weird celebrity and missed out on the game-changing he did to the music industry. I quick prepared sheet music for my gig last night to play a tune of his and I'm presently working on some more for this weekend. One of thousands of tributes I'm sure other fans will be doing in the coming months.

Very well said Lucas. I agree. Karma for playing his music!! I was lucky enough to see him in concert in oh, I think 1984 maybe? It was when he sang with his brothers at the old JFK stadium. They had to have it there because it sat 100,000 people and it was a sold out crowd. Needless to say it was an awesome concert!! So sad!! Sad

I liked MJ so much that I painted a ceramic bust of him for my sister Rose as a birthday present. I think she was 10 at the time and in love with MJ. My mom still has it in her garage and I always told her, jokingly, never to throw it away because it may be worth money someday. I never expected that someday to come so soon. Crying

When I was on my way back from Shea Stadium last September, I was exiting the #7 train at Times Square and saw a small crowd and heard some Michael Jackson music. I reached my cell through some people and got this shot of a mini-MJ with a hat, long hair, and sparkly jacket.

He had a small sound system and was doing his best MJ moves.

It looks like he was moonwalking backwards into the uptown entrance mural...............heading for the Apollo maybe?

Get into my car first...

It's amazing how the news media has pushed all the really important stuff - such as the deteriorating situation in Iran, North Korea's ship of doom, etc. - out of the headlines to devote all this space and effort to an entertainer. Panem et circenses, America... Rolling Eyes
