OK, I know it's been over for months now but I can't tell you how much I miss DJY. Today, I was watching the Womens billiards 9-Ball Championships today and in the finals, one contestant was from China while the other finalist was from Korea. I began calling them Balhae and Tang for goodness sake. And guess what? Tang won this time! I haven't been able to get into the new King Sejong series (I can't even remember the title) but I really tried again this past Saturday night. I couldn't believe it when I saw some old friends from the DJY series on it. Of course, they were all bad guys. Lord, I think I need professional help!!!

I agree with you all... hug

Don't even get me started. I went into a lengthy period of mourning after DJY went off the air. That "can't wait til the next episode feeling" is what got me through the week. The feelings of anticipation and the fulfillment were much like that of a new relationship.

I miss the well developed characters, the love triangles, the twists and turns, the hot guys and the great fight scenes. I've been popping in my crappy video tapes and watching snippets of DJY while I'm folding laundry and making the bed and I've been reminded of why I first fell in love with Korean drama. I'm also watching EOS, but nothing compares to DJY in my mind. It was such a long series that I really grew attached to the characters. After I finish with EOS I'm going to borrow DJY from the Video Club and start from the beginning. I need that feeling of anticipation in my life again.

What makes is so much worse is that Sejong is such a huge let down in comparison.

Let's have a moment of silence for our fallen comrades Gulsabiu, Geumlan, Sudol, Wolf of Madu, Dae Jungsang and all the rest...

I felt that way after The Immortal Yi Soon Shin Joy. Although we had Seoul 1945, which was much more interesting than King Sejong, IMO, DJY brought back that "this is such a great historical drama, I can't wait til the next episode" feeling.

Hey, folks.......add my name to the list.
It's totally amazing to me when people I've never met,
(all of the above) write exactly the same way that I feel.
I miss that show like crazy.

I miss the sometimes warped English sub-titles.
Xue Rengui to poor 'ole Hongpei:
"What do you mean, you stupid twerp, that we just lost the big battle?"
Where else can we find such spectacular villians as Li Wen Angry / Fuming and Shin Hong? Angry / Fuming
And let's not forget our ever-popular "blasted bastard" total count?

I saw a bit of the 2008 KBS Drama Award show last night.
Yep, you guessed it. There was Xue Rengui and our boy ~ DJY ~
standing just a few feet away from each other, smiling and happy.
Nobody pulled out a sword - nobody tried to cut off anybody's head
and gift wrap it nicely in a box.

BOO HOO. I'm gonna' sign off, and go cry now. Crying

Does anyone here have any idea about what might be the next drama after King Joseon? With my luck, King Joseon will have like 1600 episodes at one per week. I miss the battles and the over the top drama. I also miss someone that you can easily point to and call "hero" and "villain". I also miss the banter on the web each week as we all waited for the next episode to see who was right about where the show was going. Man, I really have NO LIFE!!!! And strangely, I LIKE IT!!

Darkman55,
Don't feel bad about "having no life."
My dad, (a lovely man who was never arrested in his life) always had the same
great answer, whenever anybody hadn't seen him in a while, and asked him how
he was, and what he had been up to lately:
"Well, I haven't had to call anybody up for bail money, so I must be doing OK."

Some people might see this as my dad "having no life."
But he saved an awful lot, by not needing bail money. Laugh Out Loud
Watching DJY on television, instead of cruisin' for a bruisin'
is another way to stay out of trouble!

Me too. Loved the colage of pics, brought back memories...

I tried to watch King Sejong, but I just can't do Saturday night.

If they could switch back to Thursday & Friday I think they would get more viewers.

For those of you who love historical dramas (especially fans of "Dae Jang Geum - Jewel in the Palace") there is another drama about the Joseon period called "King of the Wind", and in fact the actor who played the king in DJG also plays the king in this drama.

Here's the description:
Quote:
A remarkable Korean melodrama based on the events during the latter part of the reign of Korean King Youngjo, 21st king of the Joson dynasty in the mid-1700's, and his stormy relationship with his son, the mentally unstable Prince Sado. The story is based on history and the surviving text written by the crown princess, "The Memoirs of Lady Hyegyong". At this time, Korea was split into two political factions, the Noron and the Soron, both working with and against the monarchy in a bid for civil power. The story revolves around Prince Sado who is torn between his cruel father and the relentless Noron, plus the intrigue of an unscrupulous court lady who schemes to gain power in the court even over the Queen. In this series, the story is played out very intricately, showing in detail the intrigue in the palace and the character of the historical figures. Note that this is a true melodrama, not an action epic like the Japanese taiga dramas, so there is only a limited amount of swordplay. Stars Park Keun-Hyung, Jung Hye-Sun, Im Ho, Hong Reena, Yoon Son-ha, Kim Ji-Yeon.

I'm not a great fan of historical dramas (although I liked DJG) so I don't really want to see King of the Wind, but for those of you who might be interested, there is a place that sells it. The people who sell it tell you that it was recorded from a satellite signal (Arirang TV), so it's not a legal copy, but I don't think this is available anywhere else, so if you want it, you would have to buy it from them. I won't give you a link but you can google "Despa Drama" and find the website that way.

I bought from them once, and I can tell you that they take a long time to deliver (I had to wait about a month or more). And the cheaper disks that they use are not that great (I couldn't make a good backup copy), so you'd have to buy the more expensive brand of disk if you want something that will keep and you can watch again in the future. But they have some dramas and movies (Korean and Japanese) that are unavailable anywhere else, which give you no choice but to buy from them.

.

My passionate distaste for Shin Hong increases daily. Such a coward when he is running away; such an evil eye and sneer. Some how my DVR didn't tape the scene in which we lost Geumlan. I can't believe that I missed it! This is one of the greatest dramas I have experienced, even greater the 2nd time!

I figured we'd get Iron Empress after Sejong since Kingdom of the Winds is under 40 episodes and I never seen WYBE air historical dramas that are that short in length. I would like it even if we get Emperor of the Sea instead, both great dramas...Win/Win situation. Very Happy

Anyhow, it wown't be long now. Sejong should be over in the next 2 weeks. Wink
