It’s time to recognize the bad guys and villains. Remember this, ladies: In order to have heartthrob heroes like Bae Yong Joon and Choi Soo Jong, you MUST have villains too.
Exhibit A is Jeong Ho Geun…just look at him!
If I’m a K-drama casting director in need of a tyrannical sports coach, corrupt union boss, or sadistic prison warden, this guy is at the top of my list.
I’ve seen him twice…first time in “Dae Jo Young”. He played Sa Bugu, the most despicable and depraved character in that show. The viewing audience got what it wanted in the end…Dae Jo Young whupped his butt, and then he was beaten to death by a mob.
Also, I just finished watching him in “New Heart” playing Dr. Min Young Kyu. A physician as a bad guy? See it to believe it…I won’t spoil you with details. Every time he entered a scene, my first thought was, “Uh oh, what’s he gonna say? What’s he gonna do?” It’s also a more three-dimensional role than what he did in DJY. Sa Bugu was just a knuckle-dragger, but Dr. Min had some finesse and humor too. Give credit to Jeong…this guy is really good.
From two sources, I put together this credit list of TV shows and movies. I’m curious to know if he has played the heavy most of the time. He’s a natural!
