I sometimes wonder how long it's going to take for the "western media"
to catch on, as to what's going on with regards to the audio and visual arts
in South Korea?
Vanity Fair magazine showcases the movie newcomers to watch out for
in the future, but there's never anybody Korean on the list. Can anybody here
think of some Korean guy who would make a favorable impression on the cover
of GQ? (This shouldn't be too difficult for some of us to do.)
Unless somebody lives near a large enough city that boasts a "Koreatown,"
you can't even buy Korean music anywhere except at Yes.Asia online.
And as we kdrama crazy people know, most other people have no clue what we're
talking about, when we rave about Korean TV dramas. I can't help but think what would
have happened if some American TV station broadcast something like "Dae Jo Young"
on our TVs. (Even with the "hardship" of having to read English sub-titles.) The ratings
would have gone through the roof.
Someday....but we KDGs knew it first!
