HI guys!! Bouncing Grin
Theresa's letting me use her computer--how has everybody been?

Our group has been asked to participate in a quick survey.

Only one question;

Quote:
Can you tell me which cuisine intrigued your curiosity among the dishes shown in Korean dramas?

Please be specific as to which drama you saw this dish in and whether you have actually tried it yet.

Thanks for your help with this!! hug

I became interested in trying bimbimbap after watching Rain enjoy it so much on Full House. It was the first dish we had at Myung Ga --

whatever they all make late at night. Looks like spicy noodles and they add in whatever leftovers they have in a big bowl!

I was suprised at the number of dishes presented.

It has been shown in all K-dramas.

Usually here in US ; we have just a salad and meat or meat , a starch and a vegetable.

I was suprised that they provide all of the side dishes in dramas and at restaurants .

I also like the complimentary yourgut juice or fruit provided.

There a lot of dishes that are shown on almost every show so I can't pinpoint it like, Kimchi, Soju, the grilled meat and porridges.

One dish that stands out, "My sweetheart, my darling".
When the single dad and his son made the 'fishcakes' dish from the female lead and the son drew a little mayo heart on it. ^_^
I really wanted to try it but I haven't had a chance yet.
Only Korean food I've had is Kimchi and a Kimchi soup from a restaurant.

Well, I absolutely love sushi, and my favorite type of sushi is the California roll, so the first time I saw what looked like a California roll on a Korean drama, I wondered why were they showcasing a Japanese dish in a Korean drama, instead of showing off their own Korean cuisine? It was many years ago, but I think the drama was "Romance". Of course, now I know better, and I've learned that it wasn't sushi, but rather Kimbap, Korea's own style of "California roll". I've yet to try Kimbap but since sushi is available almost everywhere nowadays, I like to have sushi once in a while.

Another dish I see a lot, in various dramas, is a large pot of soup, from which you serve large serving-spoonfuls into your individual bowl of rice. Since I love soup and rice, it always looks so delicious to me!

When I met up with Kelly and her friends several weeks ago, we went to a Japanese/Korean restaurant, and I had a taste of a Korean side dish that Kelly ordered. It was good, but I don't know what it was. However, that is the extent to which I've tried Korean food. I guess I've got to remedy that, don't I?

In the KBS daily drama "Yellow Handkerchief," one of the subplot characters (I don't recall her name) was wild-eyed crazy for Kalbi (Korean ribs - I'm not sure if I spelled it right).

I finally hunted down a Korean restaruant in the Koreatown section of Garden Grove, California, and ordered some.

While it was tasty, there was hardly any meat on those ribs! Sad

Kimchi. Seen in all dramas I've watched. I tried it, and don't like it. It's too spicy. I like spicy foods, but not the kind of spices used in kimchi, too strong tasting. I do keep retrying it though whenever I have the oppurtunity, maybe I will eventually develop a taste for it. Wink

Watching her/them eat black bean noodles in Couple or Trouble made me drool. Unfortunately when I tried it, I would rate the experience "just ok".

Different chefs have different recipes.

The first time I tried it was at Beawon and their recipe was pretty good.
Then they switched chefs, and it tasted different...more bland, but still good.

Did you have the yellow radishes with it?
I found that the contrast in texture and tastes really makes that dish awesome.

If I didn't watch the dramas, then I would have never tried korean food. How happy am I that I did try it. It's an addiction now (thanks Sam & Myung Ga!). And of course they eat so much in the dramas that it always makes me hungry.

I think it was a general interest in watching the families eat all of the sides (banchan) with usually having the soup or stew as the main dish. I've come to enjoy most of the banchan that I've had except for the seaweed or anchovies. The cucumber kimchi is one of my favorites and thanks to ideas that Sista Laurie gave me, I use the kimchi in variety of ways like in salads - yum!

Other dishes that I've seen & loved? Bibimbap. ribs & the variou barbeque, bulgogi, Kalbi. I've haven't tried korean bacon but the scenes where they sit around the table and eat that while drinking soju peaks my interest.

I also noticed that they tend to eat a lot of sushi and so I've ventured into that. Don't really like the raw stuff so I eat a lot of the cooked rolls.

Basically take MG's menu and add it to the list.

I have to agree with Debbie. Watching them eat the black bean noodle or Jjangmyun in Couple or Trouble made me want to try them so bad! I'm still waiting. Laugh Out Loud My first taste of Korean food was a few years ago at my cousin's house where I had kimchi (I don't like it too spicy), bulgogi, and kalbi(which my daughter absolutely loved). I see these foods in all the kdramas. Very Happy
