KBS WORLD Goes Digital in 2009
From Jan. 1st. 2009 KBS World will be aired on Terrestrial Free-To-Air DTV channel 63.5 in the
New York/New Jersey areas.

 

Do you have to have a converter box for this?

You need a digital tuner but you need a digital tuner to watch anything after Feb.

Also the big AD blob at the top says "KBS WORLD"...

But when you click the link it is for "KBS America"...

They are two different things...At least their schedules are...

Which one is it?...

It is KBS America that pays for the ad space at the top of the page. The big blob will be out of here soon, replaced with something nicer. The big blob is what you get when you e-mail me a request at 7 pm on New Year's Eve and ask for it to be done yesterday.

omg i was just talking about this a couple of hours ago. I found out about this today was watching the kbs award show i spend the hole day yesterday asking people for a 24 anything besides mbc LOL. do they have schedule yet?

Yobi - I am guessing they will follow KBS America's schedule.

Actually, sorry if I missed something, but I am also wondering how to tune into these "half" channels (63.5 ect). Comcast says I don't have to do anything when the switch happens but I don't expect my cable box to suddenly develop a tenths place...

you have cable you cant get it for free unless you have a digital converter box. That ch 63.5 wont work for you try subscribing to the international package ON CABLE THERe cheap. hope i helped.

FYI - to all of us who have Comcast....stations that are analog (such as Cartoon Network & Style Channel) have gone digital. So if you do not have a digital converter box on all your tv's
you will loose/lost those stations.

So that would be cool...if we got the new station too!

Lucas - KBS and MBC are free over the airwaves like 3, 6, 10, 12, etc... in the Philly area. A lot of people need an antenna to see these channels. You also need a digital tuner. The digital tuners come with remotes that have a "-" or "." on them. Also, you can try having the tuner do an "auto search". This takes a LONG time because it tries every possible channel.

But I'm looking forward to having MBC hopefully when I get my converter.

lol I hope you get both mbc kbs i really hope these channels stay on air forever or at least until i get sick of it. looking at tv i feel like im in korea lol. min joo when when you get a converter box and antenna remember to point it at the antenna at right direction i found these channels by pure luck two weeks ago.

I just had a thought and no, I didn't hurt myself.

If MBC & KBS are now free to air, like my local stations, why can't my cable company carry them? Its not like it is costing them anything. I am going to e-mail both RCN (my cable company) and Comcast (RCN's competition here) and see if they will add the channels. I urge everyone to do so, even if you have already e-mailed them before.

omg thats scary how did you know were to look wow i thought i was good.
nothing on cable is free try getting the gold package there some channels that regular tv has that cable doesn't. i know cause i saw some music on regular that cable doesn't have.

Yobi even RCN's all inclusive package doesn't offer a Korean channel. In the Chicago area they offer MBC but not in the Philly area.

 

I read that pop up link earlier in this thread and it sounded like KBS World was pulling out
of the cable market and switching to free broadcast TV...

Instead of emailing your cable companies, why don't you ask KBS to join one of the existing
free broadcast stations on the air in Philly?...

I don't know what Channel 63 is in NY, but KBS is just renting one of their side channels, 63-5...

Why couldn't they do the same thing there?...

Since you guys have friends at KBS, getting them to add their programming to an already
free broadcast channel in Philadelphia might be easier than fighting a cable company...
