Happier Times :
 

Granny tells DJ to sit down in her room. Granny gives DJ the promissory note and tells her to rip it up. Granny says let's forget about it. DJ cries. Granny finally rips it up. Granny tells DJ not to cry. She's the one who wants to cry. They both cry.

Vetdad and GJ are having a drink of soju together. She asks him if he's sad since JY's gone. She asks if she can fill in that empty space. He says he doesnt' know how long that will take. Just be a drinking buddy/friend until then. It takes a while for him to open up his heart. She says she'll be his friend forever.

Miae is excited. She tells Auntie she got a fixed role in a drama.

GH comes running in the office congratulating BH. The board of directors is discussing a huge promotion for him.

BS, BH, and DP arrive home. Granny tells DJ that BH seems thinner. Let's get him a tonic. Doorbell. A delivery for BS. She takes it in Granny's room. It's a DNA test to see if BH is MB's son.

At dinner, Granny is watching BH eat thinking he eats so deliciously. She puts food in front of him and tells him to eat this. Everyone looks at her like she has two heads. MB asks Granny if BH and DP can go to the in-laws. They must be lonely. She says, good idea.

AD and JS are eating. JS is moping. AD is complaining about the small meal she cooked. JS says, what's the use, there's no one to cook for. In walk BH and DP with food and suitcases. JS asks if they were kicked out. BH brought soju. AD's eyes light up. "We're done eating!" BH says he'll cook something to eat. JS says, BH will cook? DP tells her he's a good cook. JS looks at him thoughtfully.

Granny and BS are getting ready for bed. BS gives her the DNA test result. BS goes to sleep in Sua's room.

AD and family are having fun drinking soju. It's all gone. AD goes out to get more and DP goes with him. JS pours a drink for BH and vice versa. JS thanks BH for everything. She says she didn't really care for him before. Is there anything he wants to eat? She'll make it for him tomorrow. He wants a brood hen. They both laugh.

Granny finally opens the test results. She reads, "The two sets are a match. MB is Kang BH's biological father." Granny starts to cry/sob.


TIME JUMP: TWO YEARS LATER:

An airplane is landing. Sua has come home. (OH, yipee )

At the Bong's, DJ, DP, and hottie adjumma MAID are cooking for Granny's birthday. DP and DJ both gag at the same time. Granny asks DP if she's pregnant. DJ gags again. The Maid says close people get morning sickness together. Granny tells DJ to take DP to the hospital.

DP and DJ come out of the hospital. They hug. They're BOTH pregnant. DP wants to call BH. DJ is too embarrassed to call MB.

Shot of BH's nameplate, "KANG BH, PLANNING MANAGER". (Why does it not say Bong BH if he's MB's bio son? Hmmm) BH is in SJ's old office. GH comes in. He's BH's assistant. He gets a call from DP. She tells him she's pregnant. He's very excited. She tells him about his mom. BH-------->YEH??

BH goes to MB's office to have something signed. He can't stop smiling. MB asks if he has good news. BH asks if he heard from DJ. NO. BH tells him about DP. Then he tells him about DJ. He's shocked and then they both laugh.

DP and DJ arrive home. Granny is excited for DP. DJ is hiding behind DP. DP tells Granny about DJ. Granny is shocked, then says this is great news. She tells them both to go and sit down. She says tell me what you want to eat. I'll cook everything for you. Granny says she just received the best gifts.

SJ is happily delivering boxes at a supermarket. He gets a call from JS. She wants to know when he's coming home. She wants to know how long he's going to do that kind of work. Mr. Kim of the investment company came over looking for him. SJ likes things the way they are right now. SJ is at the check-out counter and is leaving when he sees a pregnant JY. She and UJ just got back to Korea a few days ago. They say how happy the other looks. UJ runs up. SJ says goodbye to them.

Vetdad, GJ, Auntie, Miae, Eulsu, JY, and UJ are cooking pork belly at the house. JY and UJ are staying there until JY has the baby. Uncle, SY, and Gambler arrive. Uncle and SY are moving tomorrow and Gambler came to help them pack. They're moving nearby. Miae wants them to move far away. Vetdad tells them to sit down and eat but Uncle tells them he, SY, and Chan are going to Granny's birthday party.

SJ is at a big greenhouse packing apples in a box. He has a visitor. It's Sua. She tells him she tried to forget him. She wants to start over. She can do a good job now. He says I can't buy you bags or shoes like that with the money I make. She drops her purse and takes off her shoes. They hug.

Bong residence: A long table is filled with food and a birthday cake for Granny. DJ, MB, Granny, AD, JS, Uncle, SY, Chan, BH, and DP are there. Granny says it would be nice if Sua was there. In walks Sua. They're all happy to see her. She tells them she has a guest. SJ walks in. Everyone looks shocked. SJ says hello and everyone jumps up to greet him. Granny, "This is such a happy day." Sua said SJ didn't have time to prepare a gift. Granny says don't worry she got a huge gift today. "What?" She tells Sua about DP and DJ. Everyone's happy. DJ is embarrassed. Uncle says we should take a picture. Granny says, come, you're all my grandchildren. They have their picture taken together. Here it is: END!

I wouldn't count on it, it hasn't happen since the pre-Playback era and even without him things still seem to run that way.

I don't know how anyone else feels but I can't believe I watched this show for so long only to have it all tied up in two days...ridiculous. I've watched better high school plays than this ending here that was thrown at us. I know I've not watched many K-dramas but this was the most disappointing ending by far. What a let down. I don't understand the writers at KBS, what were they thinking...it was like "just throw everything in, just tie everything up whether it makes sense or not." Totally a letdown. I could go on forever naming things, but just a few glaring ludicricies -

1. BH being Mansu's son - we waited for this for so long and this is how it was handled? Unbelievable. I don't know if Granny was crying because she was glad BH was her "real" grandson or because she treated him so bad and now knowing he's her grandson, felt bad. Or was she upset over the news? And then they shoot into the future two years - and it's not even mentioned! KBS took away from us, the joy of seeing the expressions on everyone's face when this news was finally found out - especially the joy on BH's face. Unforgivable to handle this storyline in this fashion.

2. In all of Korea, JY and SJ just happen to run into each other. Also, Sua just happened to know where he worked?

3. At Granny's birthday dinner, when Sua came in and was told about the pregnancies, you mean to tell me that DP's parents sat there and weren't told first? They found out about it when Sua was first told? Absurd. And JS's reaction was like "oh, yes, that's nice." Oh brother.

I could go on and on, but what's the point. This totally throws me off watching the next K-drama. Thank God for PIH (after LON)...now there was a good K-drama.

Now that it's over, I'll repost what I put in the spoiler section a couple of weeks ago - the highlights, lowlights and sidelights of Episode 172:

Nice

- Granny ripping up DJ's promissory note
- BH got SJ's old job as planning manager
- JS truly appreciating BH
- DP pregnant
- BH confirmed as Mansu's biological son by DNA test
- Doc didn't show up



Hard To Believe

- DJ pregnant too!
- SJ's job as a delivery boy...........and smiling about it
- GH is now BH's "Mr. Bak"-type assistant
- Miae getting a "fixed role"
- Chan not aging after 2 years
- SJ welcomed back at the end with open arms and big smiles by everyone
- There just happened to be a camera on a tripod off to the side that was grabbed by Uncle and set up for the group shot at Granny's birthday party

What I don't get is when SJ walks into Granny's party at the end, everybody looks extremely uncomfortable - no one knows what to say. All SJ does is say "hello" and everyone immediately jumps up, laughing and smiling, shaking his hand and patting him on the back.

WTF?



Note: it's now 3 weeks since LON ended here and I still have a blah, complete-waste-of-time feeling about the ending - very unsatisfying. I liked the show, but the ending sucked.........big time.

I think they wrapped this show up as expected.

The show was popular...so they added episodes.
Then at some point the writers say ..."we got to end this".
And they wrap it up in a few episodes & a time jump.

I liked how they had SJ bumping into a happy & pregnant JY at the store.
I would have liked SJ congratulating them on the baby.

I think Granny felt guilty over the way she treated DJ & BH.
I don't think Granny told anyone she knew the truth.
Out of respect for the man BH knows as his father,
he would keep his last name of Kang.

DJ being pregnant at what....50?

I am sure Sua came home for visits.
DP being her SIL, she could ask how, where SJ was?
It just showed, that Sua really loved SJ. She wanted him rich or poor.
SJ realized that he really did love Sua? Missed her?

Hi everybody. This is the first time I've ever posted on this site. Sorry I'm not very technically proficient with avatars/graphics and stuff!!

Just wanted to say I enjoyed Likeable Or Not. I didn't get on board right away with this one---it wasn't until about episode 40-50 or so that I got on board watching this one each night after having dipped in for an episode here and there previously. I didn't have any problem with last night's final episode; I thought it was fine.

I might be in the minority on this but honestly I was very happy to see Seonjae and Sua get back together. Actually, I was hoping that they would somehow reunite in Paris!! (What can I say, I'm a hopeless romantic!...) I thought that was a very sweet exchange when Seonjae said I can't buy you new handbags and shoes with my current job's salary and then Sua took off her shoes and threw them and her handbag (threw them into some stream or river, I think...right?) away to symbolically say that's ok, I just want you back. The point is that I was able to come away with the feeling that Seonjae and Sua would definitely get back together again, which was unlike the final episode of "My Darling, My Sweetheart", which I thought was very, very frustrating because I just couldn't be sure whether or not KiJoon and InYoung would ever get back together again. (I really wanted them to.)

I realize that there is usually a lot of ground to cover and a lot of things to cram into a final episode, but there was just one little thing missing for me. After Sua shows up at Grandma's birthday party and then announces her guest, Seonjae; between that point there and the very end, I just wish the writers had been able to squeeze in about 30 seconds or so for a brief, sidebar reconcilliation between Seonjae and Mansu. Perhaps something like this:

..."I'm sorry you had to leave Bonjour the way you did---can you forgive me?" "It's ok. I've paid my debt to society, and now I just want to look forwards, not backwards." "What are you doing now?" "I do delivery/warehouse work for a produce company. It's good, honest work and I enjoy it." "That's good, I'm glad to hear that." "I'd like to start over with Sua. Do I have your approval to go out with your daughter again?" "Of course you do. Love her more this time." "Don't worry, I will!"...

(Just out of curiousity, if they got back together, stayed together, but didn't get re-married; is there any particular Korean word/term meaning like "non-married life partner"?...)

Anyway that's my two cents. I've already seen Pure In Heart before, the first time around. I love Gukhwa. Her personality is just brilliant.

Another storyline that wasn't completed: Gitae...poor guy quit his job and headed for the mountains. Hopefully is he is working.

So Granny got to go to her grave knowing the pain and suffering she caused her son, DIL & Baekho without being able to tell them. It didn't matter, because they loved each other as family.

SJ could have been a little more complacent & giddy about packing tomatoes, but it was obvious he had found himself. A scene of his asking forgiveness of Mansu would have been good. I liked the scene with Sua (although she had the shoes and purse when she showed up at Granny's party).

I liked LON a lot. There were lots of cliches and many things that could have been done better (including a much better script for poor Dongji one of my very favorite actresses & that pregnancy...she was as likely to be pregnant at her age as I am).

(BTW...they used the exact same wrapup music used in BB and some other dramas when the photo was taken!)

Yeah didn't it sound like SJ worked outside of Seoul, the way he said he couldn't visit his parents until the weekend? And it looked like he worked at some kind of farm, and the truck he was unloading from had an 043 area code, that's not Seoul, right? How would JY and Ujin end up shopping at the same store as SJ?

But some of the running into the same people is not totally implausible, like the chance meetings in the department store. I'm guessing, but maybe it's supposed to be the flagship Lotte store in Seoul and regional shoppers probably do go there over going to the closer neighborhood stores. I mean there's Macy's stores all over the country but none are like the Herald Square one (right by K-Town).

I guess it's because I knew it had to be wrapped up quick, but I wasn't mad at the ending. Some (many) things weren't realistic, I mean shouldn't the Planning Manager be an MBA or at least have a college degree? and SJ being a delivery guy? I don't know what securities laws are like in Korea so maybe he couldn't get a job in finance after having a criminal record, but I would have bought it more if they showed him as trying to reform himself by being an accountant for a non-profit org or something like that.

none zip zero and she didn't suffer for the pain she put people through (if you hate SJ, she threw aside HER MOTHER for a rich woman to mother her. ) and the good guys didn't get rewarded for their suffering.

Sorry guys I liked this show and the finale, not the best no but far from the worst.
I would have liked to see the ending stretched out a little.
so much that could have been covered or covered better but was a little rushed.
well we assume SJ spent 1-2 years in prison I'm sure he did a little thinking.
and at one time he had to be a nice guy, JY wouldn't have fallen in love with a guy like the SJ we saw.
and I can believe 2 years away from everything could help Sua grow up.
and I'm glad we saw her apologize to JY.
(even if it was a stretch I was glad to see Jo Dong Hyuk's charming smile. )

I think there were way too many pregnant women.
they should have had some little kids to mix it up.
Actually I would have liked to see Sonya with a kid.
and it would have been nice to see if Miae met anyone.

one thing I will say, the "KBS Dailies" that we watch on WYBE are a little like American soap operas they require a little suspended belief.
(You've been marred 7 times in 10 years, you're evil twin is possessed by the devil.)
that means the evilest of K-drama characters will have a massive change of heart with 2 episodes to go in a series.

Oh, and I think Granny was crying out of happiness to have a grandson and such a nice one at that.
but also I think she realized she had robbed herself and her son of seeing her only grandson grow up.
personally I would have liked to see MB find out that BH was his son and visa versa I think that would have been really touching.

Yeah, I enjoyed it pretty much too, mostly I am on board with everything Minjoo said. I did think the Sua returning and running right back to SJ was weak though. It didn't offend me, it was just kind of lame. But for us hardended old k-drama veterans this was about what to expect.

I liked this drama.

I would liked to have seen a more gradual ending, instead of having everything tied together in the last episode. That seems to be the usual way these dramas end though.

It would have been nice to have seen the weddings of Sonya and Dalhyeon, and JY and Ujin.

I would have liked to have seen how the news of BH and Mansu being biological father and son played out. Someone else mentioned how we waited for this throughout the whole drama also. We could have at least gotten the chance to see the family's reaction to this news.

All and all, I liked this drama a lot, I liked the characters a lot, and I don't want to pick out anymore negatives.

Sometimes they do replay the last episode again on a Friday so tune in tonight if you missed it

exactly, they sometimes do - I've always assumed so that they can start the new series
starts clean on Monday, so they can get them out of order again like skipping eps, or
playing some twice because the first time was without subtitles....


I am only concerned for the recording aspect. I don't want to record the last ep twice

just too many negatives to mention. the last couple weeks or so were just the worst ever. writers REALLY dropped the ball big time with the way this one ended. brat,js,and old bag are totally unredeemable in my book. do they really think brat saying she's sorry really makes everything ok? all of a sudden she's calling dj mom? old bag suddenly has a heart? beyond ridiculous!!! i'm actually glad it's over now. i really did enjoy most of it but the last bunch of episodes really soured my taste for this one a lot.

I liked the show... it was a daily kdrama after all...

I never really got into this drama. I would record it and fast forward through half of it. I kept on watching with hopes of it getting better. This one will be on my list of dramas never to watch again. I am so ready for the new drama tonight and I am watching the second airing of PIH Yun-jeong is my favorite in this one.

I'm choosing to believe that Granny told Mansu and BH that they were father/son...that's the only way I can get past the unbelievably awful ending on this show.

I'm watching PIH for the second time around because of Yun-jeoung (and G & Yunhu's relationship also.) To me, Yun-jeoung is the greatest I've ever seen on these shows. I agree about when she's being mean to G but in her eyes G is her greatest competition for her man Her mother is also one of my favorite actresses I really liked her too in this drama

I am enjoying PIH even more the second time around. I agree with you guys about Yun-jeoung, and she most certainly steals the show with her antics. Her and her mother are my favorites in this drama.

I kind of half watched this one. The ending was kind of what I expect from these dramas. (They can't all be a well done as the last episode of "Six Feet Under", the greatest ending of all time). (just my opinion).
The next one, "You are my Destiny" has a lot of characters to hate and only a few to like. And talk about coincidences and chance meetings... Get ready to suspend a ton of disbelief.

PS If KBS can change the listings in Philly, why is YAMD still listed as LION here in LA. I think the people who run channel 19 (TW Cable) are lazy or incompetent. Maybe KBS just likes the east coast better...
