Some seriously strange stuff. Amazingly a lot of people have a change of heart in the last few episodes. It really feels like they rushed and decided to cut it short. The last 30 minutes of this episode are 2 years in the future. We don't really know if SJ did time in jail, as far as I know he was only held there for a bit. He's a farmer now and seems happy to be out of the money game. It's interesting how Sua brings him home and everything seems to be forgiven. We also don't know if Granny told the family that Baekho is Mansu's biological son. That's naughty. :O That means they had sex and weren't married, which leaves me wondering who the father Baekho remembers is. Just a warning: there is going to be a ton of crying before this is all over. Seonjae pretty much makes everyone cry, that bastard! While I wanted his mom to get what she deserved, it was actually really sad to see him go through everything to save his family at the end. I was kind of satisfied with this ending, but not too much. Lots of unanswered questions about the 2 year gap. All the actors gave it their all to the end, including Danpung's mom whining like a mad woman. I got to see the previews for the next drama, don't know what it's called but it looked strange, not like something I would watch. Hopefully we dot get that one here. lol

I was pissed off how the family acted when Sua brought him home also. I also wonder if the grandmom told anyone about the results too. I taped the new show last night so I'll watch it tonight before the next episode comes on.

Now I can finally read the above spoilers because LON ended here tonight.

Here are my takes on the highlights, lowlights and sidelights of Episode 172:

Nice

- Granny ripping up DJ's promissory note
- BH got SJ's old job as planning manager
- JS truly appreciating BH
- DP pregnant
- BH confirmed as Mansu's biological son by DNA test
- Doc didn't show up




Hard To Believe

- DJ pregnant too!
- SJ's job as a delivery boy...........and smiling about it
- GH is now BH's "Mr. Bak"-type assistant
- Miae getting a "fixed role"
- Chan not aging after 2 years
- SJ welcomed back at the end with open arms and big smiles by everyone
- There just happened to be a camera on a tripod off to the side that was grabbed by Uncle and set up for the group shot at Granny's birthday party




Could Have Lived Without

- Seeing SJ........in any capacity
- Likewise for Sua
- Sua running to SJ the second she gets in from Paris
- Sua throwing herself at SJ
- SJ running into UJ and pregnant JY in a supermarket in 4-square-block Seoul within days of their return from the States




Missing In Action

- Lost Puppy Guy




Nice Touch

- Showing pix of the crew with the end credits

That's perfect!

But he DID show up at that final get-together at Vet Dad's 2 years later and he was alone. Maybe he was hoping UJ was getting tired of JY and thought he could make a move on him.

And yet some people wondered WHY I didn't like this drama that much.

Did you know that a major scene in # 172 ended up on the cutting room floor? It went like this:

Dr. Jang dropped by Bonjour’s marketing dept. to say hello to Danpung and Bakhoe. Gorilla Girl and the Intern explain that they are on vacation. Doc says he is back in Korea for the summer.

Doc gets off the elevator and starts walking towards the exit. But, then he notices a woman with her back turned who’s looking at the company bulletin board. He has seen those tight jeans before and decides to investigate.

Doc: Hello
Gossip: Oh my, it’s Dr. Jang! What are you doing here?
Doc: I came back from New York to teach a course this summer. I didn’t see you upstairs with the others.
Gossip: I don’t work at this location anymore. I was here for a meeting today.
Doc: I dropped by to say hello to Danpung & Bakhoe, but they weren’t in.
Gossip: (Her face crinkles up like someone farted in her presence) Let’s not talk about them.
Doc: I’m sorry, but I’m glad I saw you.
Gossip: Really? (Her face lights up and she puts her vise-like arm lock on Doc’s right arm).
Doc: Yes, there’s something I always wanted to do to you.
Gossip: Tell me more!
Doc: You’ll really like it…
Gossip: I live in Busan…
Doc: Well, we don’t have to do it in Seoul…
Gossip: It’s near the beach…
Doc: I picked up some finer points in New York City…
Gossip: I’m sure you did. We can take the bullet train from here tonight…
Doc: First, I have to check my schedule.
Gossip: I’ll tell everyone at Bonjour foods…including that big goof who used to sit next to me upstairs…
Doc: Then I’ll notify my students.
Gossip: Of course, they’ll need a substitute instructor for at least a week.
Doc: Uh…no…they’ll be observing me in action.
Gossip: Observing?
Doc: Yes, it’s a great learning opportunity. Two will assist me and the rest will watch.
Gossip: (She unlocks his arm and starts shouting) Are you a pervert?!

Now that the show has ended, I have time to review a lot of this spoiler thread. I was surprised to read so many negative comments about LON. I agreed with some of them, but to say this show was no better than SHEW is a stretch. LON was way better.

I’ve seen the ending episodes for four shows: PIH, Chill Sisters, SHEW, and LON. They all had flash-forward scenes where everyone lived happily ever after. Some of you disliked how LON ended (I have some complaints too), but it was not too different from what I’d seen before. An exception would be the final scenes with Gukhwa & Yunhu in PIH…yes, another happy ending, but very moving also.

For you old-timer viewers, did they ever end a series where someone dropped dead, or someone miscarried, or someone got divorced, or someone got written out of the family registry, or someone went broke?

If you want ‘justice’ at the end of a series, then you can’t have a flash forward segment. Have a classic “Gone with the Wind” ending. Someone has to tell Granny, Sua, JS, or Seonjae that we don’t give a damn about you. Has this been done before in K-drama?

As for ep. 172, I’ll throw in my two cents. I agree that the writers seemed indecisive, so they punted several questions. Was Granny the only one to know that BH was Mansu’s real son (it wasn’t clear if Donggi knew)? Did SJ serve time in the can or get probation? Did Gitae retire or get another job? In defense of the writers, this show had knockout TV ratings, so they had no incentive to be creative or informational at the end.

A few more observations on the show in general:

* I can’t believe Dalyeon & Sonya were stuck in that little room at VetDad’s for two years!

* They should have made Miae a TV star earlier in the show…so she could hook up with one of her co-stars and abandon Chan again!

* The writers got lazy with Geumja. I wanted more background on her.

* When Ujin first showed up in this show, he knew VetDad quite well. Did they ever explain how and where? It wasn’t clear to me if he knew Jiyeong before.

* It seemed like VetDad’s clinic was on the road to bankruptcy…then the issue was dropped.

* What were they thinking when they brought in Lost Puppy Guy and then dumped him? I started thinking maybe he was hired by the Brat to stake out and run over Jiyeong with a motorcycle.

* Cider Park became BH’s assistant, but can’t he afford to wear a suit and tie?

* Everyone was too lovey-dovey when SJ showed up as the Brat’s guest at Granny’s birthday party. I would have written it this way at the start: There’s long awkward silence from everyone after SJ says hello. SJ apologizes for showing up unexpectedly, bows and starts to leave. Mansu says, “Wait. Please sit in my place.”

* I’m amazed at how almost every plot twist was so obviously telegraphed either in the show or in the previews.

Lost dog guy... when he said he was unemployed ... he was immediately dismissed as a possibility for the daughter by vet dad and Eulsu.

Ujin knew the family (had a crush on J) for a longtime before he gave up and left abruptly.

The vet shop picked up when the daughter started calling their old clients.

The ending was very badly done. Very dissatisfying. Do they think I'm going to forgive all these ass-hole characters because they suddenly become kind, and/or change their evil ways? The only ones I wound up liking were U Jin, Dan Pung, Eul Susie, Clueless Office Girl, Uncle, and Sonia. Pathetic! KBS needs to take a long hard look at SBS's dramas. SBS does a much better all around job (except for the last 1/3 of GDTL).

I shudder to think what snappy episodes that the bunch of us
could come up with, if we were to write "Likable or Not" Part II.

What I don't get in when SJ walks into Granny's party at the end, everybody looks extremely uncomfortable - no one knows what to say. All SJ does is say "hello" and everyone immediately jumps up, laughing and smiling, shaking his hand and patting him on the back.
