Kim Myung Min in IYSS is in a new drama called Bad Family. He is a bad guy. He really wanted to get out of the ISS image. To make sure, he even gets seasick in this drama! Laugh Out Loud

His co-star is Nam Sang Mi.

You are welcome, Joanmarie and Clotie.

Before he was cast for IYSS, he really struggled. Early in his career, he was virtually unkown and even his girlfirend (now his wife) did not believe him when he told her that he was was as actor.

Could I start up the KMM thread again?

He's taking the movie role given up by one Kwon Sang Woo in something called "My Love by My Side," playing a humorous guy with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). The love interest is Ha Ji Won. She's also humorous---plays a "cheerful funeral director." huh I don't take to Ha. She reminds me of Dorothy Parker's quip about Katherine Hepburn: "She runs the emotional gamut from A to B."

But cool. Love to hear about him doing anything.

Going back into old-time Hollywood history:
There was a story about Greta Garbo when she made the film
about Queen Christina of Sweden. The guy she loves dies (played
by screen heart-throb John Gilbert, who she almost married in real life).
She also wasn't happy with the royal restrictions placed on her life,
so she abdicates from the throne of Sweden, and the film ends with GG on
a ship, heading off into the future, as the camera zooms in for a close-up.

The story is, that the director told her to look at one spot....and think of
NOTHING. That way the audience could "read" whatever they saw in her face.

I first discovered Korean drama, when I stumbled across "The Immortal Admiral."
Anybody else......standing still......not talking.......looking at the ocean......
would have looked like a dope.

THIS ACTOR was hypnotic, and it was fascinating to watch him.
He deserved every award there is; and I hope that he was awarded them all.

But I can't say anything complimentary about that hat.
It looks like floppy bunny ears, huh?

What's with the photograph with the cello?
Some kind of biography of Yo Yo Ma in the works?

Thanks for posting these pictures, changgunesse.
One of a group of very talented people from Korean TV.

The cello photo was publicity for Beethoven Virus. Shows off the "continental" wardrobe, which Korean men started imitating.

There hadn't been any action on this thread for almost 3 years. During that time his career really took off. Exceptional guy. It was a long time coming for him but he's getting the full superstar treatment now. Praise you! Praise you! Praise you!

Nice article called "Explaining Kang Mae" on Dramabeans. It's accompanied by some moody fashion shots of KMM, and says his "eye candy" factor has been overlooked. (If you've seen White Tower you know what they mean. Whoa mama! Rolling Eyes )

The article has one of the few mentions I've seen about his home life, how he prepares at home for a role like the conductor in Beethoven Virus with his young son around.

I finished watching Beethoven Virus a while ago. I would have given up on it half way through,
but Kim Myung Min saved the show...He was really good...

Ditto. There were some nice performances by the supporting players but I thought he was the show too.

Hope it isn't a spoiler to say the best moment was the "Ode to Joy." You'da thought he'd done nothing but conduct all his life. Praise you!

Kim Myung-min Selected as Best Actor of the Year

According to international opinion research company Gallup, actor Kim Myung Min has topped the list in a survey with 700 adults across South Korea, titled “Shining Stars of 2008″.

Kim Myung Min, who acted as maestro Kang Ma Ae in “Beethoven Virus”, grabbed the title with a high support of 15.6% while second place Song Seung Hun received 10.6% support for his performance in “East of Eden”.

The third to fifth place are Moon Geun Young (9.8%, Painter of the Wind), Song Il Gook (8.9%, The Kingdom of the Winds) and the late Choi Jin Shil (8.1%, My Last Scandal) respectively.

The survey was conducted in a face-to-face home interview manner, with multiple choices as the main form of selection. As the company boasts a high sampling accuracy of 95% with a standard deviation of 3.7%, the survey can be said to extrapolate to and represent the entire South Korean population.

Imagine the West Wing cast doing a Cheez-Its commercial. This is the Beethoven Virus cast doing a Korean cracker CF. One of the ways Korean entertainers keep a chummy, down-to-earth connection with their audience?

There's a translation of sorts in the text comments below the video clip. The maestro's last line is "Dr. You, this is my cracker!"

There's more cute stuff in the video list on that page. Bouncing Grin

More about Beethoven Virus (courtesy of Dramabeans).
The mad marketing genius strikes again.

Maestro Puts Out Classical Music Album

"Capitalizing on his success as conductor “Kang-mae” in Beethoven Virus, Kim Myung-min is putting out a classical music album. Er, what now? No, Kim hasn’t suddenly revealed hitherto-unknown musical talent (though he professes to be a classical-music enthusiast). Rather, he’s “editing” a compilation to be put out by classical music label EMI Classics, which bears the title “Kim Myung-min’s Classic Maestro.” The album contains Kim’s favorite selections and recommendations, and is organized under four themes (passion, harmony, rest, solitude).

As Kim explains it, many people enjoy classical music but don’t necessarily know where to start; his reasoning behind his selections for this album is to provide the general public with a “first step” in their foray into the classics. The album goes on sale on December 26."

Whatever works when your career is rockin'. Caption for the photo: Please, Lord, let the public buy this thing before they find out they're being had. Rock

All this is because I don't have a K-drama to watch. I'm watching the K-drama blogs instead. Waiting for my Christmas present to myself, More Beautiful than Flowers, to arrive from KBS. Then vol. 3 of King and I. Then I have to win the lottery so I can buy Emperor Wang Guhn. The New Year will hold good things. Maybe I'll be too busy to obsess about Kim Myung-min for a while.

I like your Christmas avatar, nolmac5 (Joanmarie?). Santa

FAN FRENZY for KMM.

At an autograph signing promoting the new classical album he's "maestroing." This is so great.

Special for Joanmarie---there's some nice eye-candy photos of him with the Dramabeans story. Man in Black. Woo-hoo! Here's one.

Kamsahamnida for the karma!

That story put a BIG smile on my face today. I liked this photo a lot. The fan holding his hand in both her hands like she wants to take him home to mother. You go, girl! Love

I posted a reply having to do with a certain person's wardrobe (not his) but decided it was too spoilerish. So glad you're getting your KMM jollies. Wink
