First thing we can discuss is why they named it Jolly Widows. Laugh Out Loud

Lots of familiar faces including Faux Chan Hoon and the sister from That Fool.

I didn't recognized the evil Empress of Khitan from "Empress Chun chu" till she started yelling at her subordinate.
Oh, there she is! Laugh Out Loud

I am watching. It can't be worse than TRH. I thought the first episode was good.

It is definately not as bad as The Road Home, but it's not nearly as good as Mom's Dead Upset or The Chill Sisters. The Jolly Widows has all the typical k-drama cliches -- you know, man catches woman before she falls, amnesia (which seems to run rampant in Korea), etc., etc. But I am watching it because in the NY tri-state area it is the only drama we get during the week, and I am addicted to K-drama!

Last night was better, but man it's "Things I learned from Kdramas 101"

Rich brat gets off a plane and has run with future husband.
They fall instantly in hate and poor guy damages something of rich girls so he owes her money.
They end up working with each other and the girl names the guy after the amount of money he owes in her phone.
Plus! girl almost gets hit by truck that never slows down and is rescued by boy.

I think Grandpa's going to be the one to hate though.Razz At least for me.
----------
Oh, anyone watching this on MindGlobal at 10pm over the air?
That's how I watch it and the signal keeps dropping out mid show.
I've had to finish watching it online twice now.

I am watching on Global Mind with Comcast

My picture freezes for minutes! Then show resumes (some minutes in future) so there are gaps in show.

I guess since I am also a K-drama addict , I continue to watch!

(The frozen screen HA HA)

But, seriously, it gets annoying, last night it occured at least 3 x for about 2 minutes each.

Mine was freezing too.
I'll watch any of these shows. They seem to get a little more slapsticky now though, but they have their nice moments. Nothing as good as YH.
Am I mistaken, or is one of the actors weird plastic surgeon, guy from LON and evil husband from TRH?

Yes that's the evil Ex husband from The road home.

Mine only froze once today, of course when it freezes it changes to 35.4 and it takes me a bit to notice. Rolling Eyes
Btw, the first 10 episodes are on Mysoju now. I left a link in the Jolly widows link thread.

Man, SIL can scream. Eek !

Are you talking about Minsu, the doctor from TRH? If so, what part is he playing here, I don't recognize him at all? Another thing, for me anyway, no hotties to look at in this one, so I've lost interest just on that fact alone.

door 60/Min Joo - agree with you both. The plots are almost always the same, they have so many of the same elements in each drama. I guess it doesn't take much creativity to be a K-drama writer.

Blackouts - I had them also last night and the night before. It's very annoying because when it returns, you don't know what you've missed, hard to watch this way.

I don't know if I'm going to give this one a chance or not because it seems like it's headed towards the same stupid, inane responses i.e., when Dongja walked in on YoonJung in the arms of the the nutty cartoon guy, Dongja's response to scream like a banshee was just way too over the top - it's ridiculous. Just because she was helping someone out in his apartment? It's just not a normal response. She's an adult, she can't go up to the apartment of a guy she KNOWS? The other thing in the same part was when YoonJung told the cartoon guy to stay away from her from now on, don't come around, don't freeload anymore...and then a second later Mun comes back with coffee and tells nutty cartoon guy to come in for some and YoonJung just gives the "eyes to the sky" expression and the next thing they are all sitting having coffee! Instead of telling him "What did I just tell you, no, you will not come in for coffee." So, it's things like this where I can see where this is headed, just way too predictable again. And you just know that the dad that is off-screen is the assumed dead husband remarried again and that is is the father of Jinwu and also the father of rich girl (although not really her father, but still...) and these two will be hooking up. So with all the predictability and stupid behaviors, I say why bother? I know I say that, but yet I'm still drawn to watching at night...what it is about these shows that just hold your attention?

Oops, he only played the creepy plastic surgeon. Not the evil ex-husband, that was Kim Joo Hwan.

You might want to check out Love and obsession
http://www.mysoju.com/love-and-obsession/
But the fact that people say Jolly ends up the better show gives me hope since L&O seems more interesting.

I'm with you, Carly -- I know exactly how things are going to turn out in Everybody Cha Cha Cha or Jolly Widows or whatever name they want to call the show, because of all the typical cliches that we have seen so far, and somehow, I am still watching. I think the ones we get daily are genarally bad. Alot of the ones I rent from the Video Club are really very good. Occasionally I watch some dramas on mysoju, and they're good too. I guess it's the good ones that make me watch the bad ones, hoping they'll get better ! Bouncing Grin

I could see getting into this show purely for the eye candy and familiar actors/actresses.

The rich daughter (Na-yoon) is kinda cute, Soo-hyun is decent, and of course my girl PHB (Jin-kyung) is just adorable. Plus we've got everybody's favorite grandma, FakeCH (who seriously needs a haircut), and several goofy looking characters like the comic book dude, that woman that was with him, and Moon Goon (what an awesome name...ha ha). I also like the actress that plays Jung-sook...I know I've seen her somewhere before but I can't remember where.

This show might be one to watch.

I am still trying to get into this one. But the storylines are too predictible this early on. I do not like the Han and Chul's father. Yes I really like grandma so I am happy she's in this. FakeCH played Jisoo's dad in High as the Sky, Wide as the Earth and yes he needs a haircut.

He also needs to stop chuckling at everything.

"Good morning, dear,"

"Huh huh huh"

"The sky is blue"

"Huh huh huh"

"Your best friend got run over by a truck"

"Huh huh huh"

He's starting to remind me of Butt-head. Maybe the "CH" should stand for Chuckle Head.

Why do I enjoy this web site so much, you ask?
Because most of the time, you guys write exactly
what I've been thinking........

You're rich?
Then there's no privacy law in Korea that can stop you,
when you want information about anyone poor.
(Like information about a lady car mechanic, for example.) Rolling Eyes

Somebody will have to hit the "dead" dad/uncle over the head
with a car wrench before he recognizes anybody from the past........
And yeah, I found his chuckle at everything very annoying, too.
Anybody else upset at how much and how often the non-mechanic mom
yells and hits her lazy, unemployed daughter? Could there be a connection
when a child is raised like this, without ever being praised.....or loved?
The cartoonist is Mr. Unmade Bed? That's what I call him, too. Laugh Out Loud

In other news........
I was making a print-out for this kdrama, and did a search for "Jolly Widows."
Then I made the big mistake of choosing Hancinema for a Home Page.
Now I love spoilers as much as the next person who loves spoilers.
I get to yell at the TV not to worry....the problem will be solved in a few episodes.

Scanning down, what did I find?
A photograph of "the first bride" in this series, with the caption: Here is actress________
in her wedding gown, playing the part of ________, as she marries actor________,
playing the part of _______, in the kdrama "Jolly Widows."

Talk about a spoiler too soon.
Notice that I didn't post the web site for this picture. If you really want to know,
follow the above route, but don't blame me if you get disgusted by the news. Sad

Yeah, I'm not too worried about the plot 'cause I know it'll probably be predictable. We've pretty much seen it all as far as the daily dramas go. Hopefully my girl and some of those other characters will be enough to keep me interested. I doubt it, but we'll see.

Yes! That really ticked me off, mostly because I have a crush on the girl. It's nice to know we have something in common, though (not the abuse, but the unemployment...ha ha). Smile

Oh, and Lucas would have a fit if he was watching this show and he came across that spoiler you mentioned. Laugh Out Loud

The spoiler I mentioned?
I didn't type what the spoiler was; not even under a "spoiler bar."
And I didn't mention any names, either.
I was warning people that they might find this spoiler the same way
as I did, completely un-expectedly.

I wrote that somebody got married.
Could be anybody.

That being said.....
I hope that grandma runs off with Mun (sp?), the assistant mechanic.
That'll teach everybody a lesson. Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud

It's a kdrama, Someone's getting married.Razz

Someone will also disappoint/go against their parent's wishes.
Someone will get slapped, punched or water thrown at them.

No, that's not what I'm getting at - I know you didn't spoil anything.

I meant that if Lucas was watching this show and he stumbled across the site you mentioned that had the spoiler on it, he would totally lose it. My comment was a stab at Lucas, not at you. Smile

I'm starting to feel like I should be "shipping" the sisters in law.Razz
(But this isn't that kinda show.)

Am I the only one with a bad feeling Lee Han is going to end up, not with his girlfriend of x years but her bratty cousin?

And by the way we have both a rich brat and a poor brat on this show so you can't say they didn't mix it up. Laugh Out Loud

Funny thing about last night and Tues episode.

When the cousin came into the club looking for her friend a rap song was playing with a chorus something like, Oh s***, shake that a**.
But when the scene replayed at the start of Wed night's episode it magically had turned into a Common song. Laugh Out Loud
(For those that don't know Common is a nice young man who rarely curses unless it suits his narrative.)

I guess someone who knew English let them know the had passed the 15 and over mark.

It really looks like Jin Kyung will end up with her cousin's man, now we've done this before but never with such close family. I mean they've shared a room for 15 years. (A room with robot wallpaper. Confused I mean seriously, you're grown women.)

I'm guessing Rich brat will end up with salary man Jin Woo mean while his cousin might end up with the guy who use to like his girl?

and will Yoon Jung end up back with her husband or the comic book guy?

Yeah, I'm totally loving the three younger girls right now, and surprisingly, out of all of them, I think I'm developing a crush on the rich brat. I dunno, there's just something about her...Smile

Even though I can pretty much deduce who will end up with who just by the law of opposites (those who hate each other will naturally end up being together), the show has still managed to entertain me.

Oh, and it's really weird seeing Grandma as a good character in Jolly Widows and then seeing her as an evil one immediately afterward in Likable or Not. She plays the evil role well, but I like our beloved halmonie much more as a good character.
