Jinwu's got nothing on Mechanic Mom.

After Granny announced that she's off to find her precious Teaesu,
"mm" just stood in the hallway and let her pajama clad mother-in-law
take off for parts unknown??? Not like Granny even knew where to go.
Unicorn's office building? Taesu's house? The poor woman's never been
there yet. So where would she tell the taxi driver to go?

She did, however, make the correct fashion statement. I thought that
the woolen neck scarf added a lovely touch to the pajamas, OOPS,
I mean the lounge wear. And she was 50% barefoot in the snow?????

I hope when that poor grandmother recovers some calm emotions,
she'll think back to how nobody told her anything about her stupid son.
Granny should get a big stick and beat the entire family to death as they sleep.

~ And how about when mechanic Mom and Jinwu got to the hospital,
met Junwu in the hallway for the latest news, and when they went in to granny's
room, closed the sliding door, leaving Junwu totally forgotten. But in a way
he was kind of lucky. He got to miss all of those dopes playing Korea's favorite
family game: "It's my fault......no, it's my fault.......you're both wrong, it's my fault."

Anybody know where I can watch re-runs of that lovely-by-comparison series,
"The Road Home?" Cripes, that turkey made more sense than "Jolly Widows" does.
135 [freakin'] episodes....and I haven't seen anybody JOLLY yet.

I totally agree that Kyle is the man! Finally, an attractive American appears in a K-drama who can act and speak Korean! Love love love Kyle!

Can somebody post photos of the Ninja Grannies Battle in Episode 5? That was hilarious! I want them for a screen saver. If Bickering with Insults was an Olympic Event, the Grannies would win GOLD for Korea. I'm waiting for a scene where Ninja Grannies catch a fly with their chopsticks.

I was surprised to see that schoolgirl and schoolgirl romance. I happened to mention it to my old man as he was passing through the tv room with his coffee. "Honey, this show had teenagers in schoolgirl outfits making out." "What? .....Rewind so I can see it." Finally got him to watch a K-drama with me!

Kkeut Soon is outrageous, right? I was wondering the same thing about if this was the first drama that showed a girl/girl relationship. It seems Kkeut Soon's life goals are to try to find ways to shock people.

As for the baby's mom, again I was thinking the same. Hopefully, she's really gone. I do have to give credit to the dad though, taking care of the baby the way he has, considering he was never the same way with the others.

Oh, THIS is believable!

Granny goes into shock seeing the picture of Taesu and Suhyeon, is unconscious at the hospital, wakes up, wants to get up and go find Taesu while still in her hospital pajamas, her family can't stop her, she shuffles through the hospital with Jinwu in hot pursuit about 20' behind her, goes outside in the snow with one shoe on, tries to get multiple taxis to take her to her son, and then:

As you can see, Jinwu finally finds his way to the front entrance a couple of MINUTES after Granny made it out, ignores the crowd and immediately looks in the wrong direction - as every person in every KDrama does when they go to meet someone in a coffee shop - and then doesn't stick around to witness his grandmother's happiest moment in 15 years.

Ho-hum............just normal KDrama stuff.

I'm with you on the doc's mom, Maria. I totally hate her after tonight. Hopefully that's the last we'll have to see of her. My Ruby took that slap like a champ, though - I just wish she would have hit her back!

Mom's little chat with Tae-ja made me warm up to her a bit. Jade's overly stern, cold attitude is helping to sway me to Mom's side too. Granted, Jade isn't necessarily wrong, but her constant bitterness is really starting to get on my nerves. I understand she's upset about the renters, but that doesn't mean that she has to treat them both like garbage. Surely she just doesn't realize how cool both of them are and will come around eventually.

Speaking of the renters, the scene where Kyle debriefed Bentley was just great...ha ha. I really like those guys - they seem like they would be fun to hang out with. At this point, everything Kyle touches pretty much turns to gold. He's the man, 'nuff said.

That Kkeut Soon is a piece of work, that's for sure! She is just too much!

Oh, and the quote of the night goes to Kyle: "Korean women are really scary." Ha ha ha!

The scene between the Mom and the baby was so tender! But then, how could anyone's heart not melt with a gorgeous little baby like that. But the Mom is no angel herself, spending money like it grew on trees.

The doctor's mother is such an arrogant snob. Ruby is better off not marrying the doctor, especially since he is an only son, and the mother comes attached as part of the package. Who'd want to have to deal with that (b)witch day in and day out for the rest of their lives?

And Kkeut Soon, OMG!! She likes girls? She's actually having a romance with another girl? Isn't this a first in a Kdrama?

I think the writer of this drama must have a bathroom fetish, seeing how many bathroom scenes and "pooping/constipation" conversations there have been so far. Although the conversation between Lyle and the Bentley guy was hilarious, I wonder if it is common in Korea for people to ask each other about their "pooping" habits, especially if it's someone you've recently met!

And the last scene, with the Mom asking herself if the baby's mother is really dead. It makes you wonder if the woman is still alive and will show up sometime to further complicate this family's affairs.

Now that most of the major characters have been introduced, the story is now beginning to come together. Looking forward to Episode 7 tomorrow!

A Few notes:

-There will be a 50-50 raffle $5 a ticket or 5 for $20. The winner receives half the money collected. The other half goes to the server fund.
-Every get together there are people who reserve and don't show. I wind up chasing them down but even then some don't pay. (Two people still owe me from last get together). Additionally, every get together 1 person winds up not paying. I am sure this is an oversight and not intentional but the total collected is always short by 1 meal. In an attempt to avoid these issues, everyone is encouraged to pay for their meal in advance. You can, of course, still pay at the door if you choose. Your meal cost can be sent to me via Paypal or postal money order only. I have been burned by a few personal checks so, unless you clear it with me first - no personal checks. If you choose to use Paypal, add $0.80 for their processing fee (total cost $20.80). You can use the top donation buttons to send the Paypal payment or send the Paypal payment directly to mtlandis@yahoo.com. Make sure to note that it is your payment for dinner.
-RSVPs will be accepted from March 1st thru noon (EDT) April 18, 2010. Attendance is limited to 70 people. Once we reach 70 people, we will start a waiting list - 1st come, first serve. You are free to change your confirmation anytime before April 18. If you need to cancel after April 18 you will be responsible for the cost of your meal. If I have to chase you down for the money or you fail to pay, you will be banned from both the group and future get togethers.
-Please note if you cancel your RSVP, your place will be filled by someone on the waiting list. If your plans change again, you will be added to the waiting list if there are 70 confirmed attendees.
-Dinner will be served buffet style. If China and cloth napkins are your thing, maybe you should skip the get together and attend an Indie instead.
-Winners of the first game will be the first in the Buffet line. The second place winners will be next and so on. Everyone is encouraged to be on time as we start playing as soon as you arrive.
-No alcohol will be served at this event. No alcohol may be brought to this event
-Bring your own (NON ALCOHOLIC) drinks! We will take care of ice, hot water, cold bottled water, coffee, tea, sweetner, creamer and cups. .

I was so surprised today to find that there are now some KPOP albums on iTUNES! Up pops a recommendation list "custom made" for me & there songs/albums by Girls Generation, 2 AM, 2PM, Jewelry and a few others! About time, iTUNES! They will need to start having more translations, since some songs are listed in English and others in Korean. However, I am glad these groups will finally have an opportunity for people in the US to purchase their individual songs!

In typical Kdrama fashion, after all that bickering and squabbling, we just know that Kyle and Ruby are destined to end up together. Priesthood for Kyle? Yeah, sure.

Again, whenever the baby was on the screen, I had to keep going back to read the subtitles because I just kept my eyes on the baby and missed everything that was said. Have I mentioned how adorable he is? Have I told you that he is sooooo darn cute? While the grannies were talking (and I was missing their conversation), he was crawling around in the background, trying to open the microwave and the latch door to granny's cabinet. Soooooooo cute!!!

The scene with the octopus was just gross!! I've read that in Japan it's a delicacy to eat the shrimp while they are still wiggling, that it gives a special sensation in the mouth, so maybe in Korea it's the same with the octopus, but if I felt a piece of food move inside my mouth, I would definitely throw up.

OK, now why does everybody in this drama at some point has to rush to the bathroom? (Today it was the young doctor). Everyone pats their stomach, makes a grimace and takes off running to the toilet. What the heck is in those sandwiches that Jade makes anyway?

Now we've seen how Jade and Yeong Geuk (the Bentley guy--or rather "former" Bentley guy) are thrown together again. By the way, where is the brother going to sleep now that his mother has rented out his room from right under him? (Nice going, Mom).

I loved the last scene with the two warrior grannies! Too funny.

And, as expected, in the previews for Episode 6, we see that Ruby and her doctor are going to break up. It will be no surprise, of course, we already know that sparks are going to fly when the two families meet!
